Aside from where you live, how many U.S. States have you visited? (As in visited, I mean stayed for a length of time rather than driven or flown over.)

I have effectively been to only two others, unfortunately.

Three years ago, in the summer of 2004, my father and I traveled to the western part of the country by car. We started in Montréal and we crossed the country until we reached California. Awesome trip! We crossed many states, but we really visited 7 states.

The first one was Colorado. We didn't stay long because it was the monsoon and as we were camping, it was a bit too cold to stay in the mountains. We then drove south to New Mexico. Much hotter We continued to Texas and arrived in El Paso for the 4th of July. I had never seen so much (non-professional) fireworks in my life! It was like every citizen had bought a truckload of them and were igniting them anywhere. Quite a sight! We then moved to Arizona, then Utah. Then we went to Nevada (I have to come back to Vice City ) and finally California, where we spent about a month (half the trip). That was the ultimate road trip: 20 000 km (12 500 miles) in two months!

I also visited Florida a couple of times when I was younger. So I can say I visited 8 states in total. Pretty good for a Canadian

I've been to 35 of the 50 States, Washington DC, and have visited (or lived) in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Japan, UAE, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Italy and Spain.

Oh, and I'm originally from New Mexico and was once asked (while in Arkansas) if I had any trouble getting into the US from New Mexico and that my "English was purty good". So does that count extra?

Hopefully nobody said "You sure got a purdy mouth" to you. And how did you like UAE? Been there a times courtesy of the Navy and I thought it was beautiful. Italy, as well.

And abroad: Hawaii (Little Tokyo), Canada, Panama, Curacao, Spain, Italy, UAE, France, Norway, Germany, Austria, Saudia Arabia (just Prince Sultan Air Base, which probably doesn't count for ****) and lowly St. Thomas, which is (unfortunately) a US owned piece of **** island that I will never ever ever ever ever EVAR set foot upon for the rest of eternity. I'm sure I forgot a place or two...

This thread reminds me of that great Johnny Cash song "I've been everywhere."

I think I've been to about half.

I think I am around 10 states currently.
Visited about four other countries, and so far all done before I turned 21, though I am 21 now.

My goal is to hit most places in the world to learn and enjoy all that our world has to offer, maybe by the end of my days see space travel become more of a standard thing.

It is dreams that will survive, for a dream is immortal.

I was doing INFOSEC reviews of state governments for my client in my last job... so between that and personal travel, I've been to pretty much all of them except:

Alaska
Michigan
Oregon
Utah
New Mexico
and Maine

And let me tell ya.... State Capitals are NOT usually the place to be for that state..... Jefferson City? eww....

Montana was probably the most beautiful state IMO.
On personal travel, I think Sedona, AZ and Monument Valley are the most scenic.

As for International travel.... Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Canada (does that count?).. oh and of course, I live in Maryland... so U.S. as well.

In the U.S. I've been to Washington, Colorado, Nevada, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. I've been to a few more but just stopping in the airports.

International travel as been to Italy, Switzerland, Aruba, and Spain. And also Gatwick Airport in London for 8 hours twice, so does that count.

Well, I live in Ohio.

I've been to: California, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. Counting Ohio, that's 14 states that I have physically been in for at least one day and one night. I have not been in any other states at all (even just "passing through"). This October I will add Massachusetts to the list as I will be there for a week on business.

I've been in Canada, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, and Italy for at least a day and a night. I've "passed through" Austria (On a German exchange trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen our tour bus crossed the border into Austria for about 30 minutes drive time and back into Germany). I remember them telling us to be quiet and not say a word so they could lie to the border agents and say we were all Germans).

hehe.

I doubt they'd even care about something that happened in 1992.

Oh, and why only the German authorities? Why not the Austrian ones too?

Nah, the Germans don't like the Austrians

6 : Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and ... California. A nice country to visit for vacations and lots of states still on my list

The airport and immigration horror stories have kinda affected this, though. Low dollar benefits vs. police state with absurd restrictions on freedoms - difficult choice.

Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and D.C. I'm not counting Illinois or Missouri because I've only been in airports there. I have spent more than just a layover in both Pa and Ga, but more time in airports there than anything else.

I've also been to Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, The Caymans, Honduras and Panama. The first four were voluntarily, but Uncle Sam sent me to Honduras and Panama.
