If I see it available before them in stores, I'll slap myself, but after the whole Wii supply thing, I'd rather not risk it. I bought a second Wii-mote a day or two after the launch, but I wasn't able to get an extra nunchuck and now I can't find any Wii controllers at the stores. Funny enough, my friend was able to buy an extra nunchuck, but not another remote.
BEst buy is has Wii's but is holding for them tomorrow, check there.

Anyway, I also saw one store that had extra controllers but I didn't grab one. Every other store had Zero.

Apparently there was a huge nunchuck shortage, I didn't see any either.

I have yet to see a nunchuck in any store, and I've checked at least 5 so far. The only place where I found additional controllers was Toys R' Us. Zelda has been hard to come by as well, but not nearly as difficult as the nunchuck.

The nunchuks are definitely the hardest to find at the moment. I looked at several stores with no luck, but then I saw that circuitcity.com had them available and they were even doing a $5 off sale on all Wii accessories. So I should have one more complete controller set by tomorrow or so. The sale is over now and the nunchuks aren't available online anymore, but they do have the remotes if anyone is interested.

Gabriel -- where did you order your component cables from? I have been meaning order some from Nintendo directly and the last I heard they would be available at the end of November since the first batch sold out. But that may not be the most current info.

I found an extra Wiimote at the local EBGames yesterday (we picked one up for a friend), but we got the last one. We haven't been able to find Nunchuks at all, though the EBGames definitely carries them.

On gaming systems...

480i<480p<1080i(on the 360, at least, it's 580p blown up and interlaced, it's strange)<720p<1080p.
Composite and S-Video can only drive 480i, with S-Video giving better picture quality between the two since brightness is separated.

Component is the next step up, as it can drive almost every display resolution out there right now, but as was mentioned earlier, it most TVs don't accept 1080p over Component, even if it's supported. VGA and Component are pretty comparable.

The next step up will be going digital all the way to the tube (Better quality, as digital-analog-digital conversions suck and kill picture quality).

Your two choices when going all digital is HDMI or DVI, which are about equal, although, I'm not sure what systems will support DVI right now.

So, currently...

R/F (Your cable-in) (analog) <
Composite (The three wires Red/White/Yellow)(analog) <
S-Video (Looks like a serial cable) (analog) <
Component (Three wires Red/Green/Blue) (analog) ~=
VGA (analog) <
DVI (digital) ~=
HDMI (digital)

Wii will only support up to 480p.

HDMI is basically DVI plus audio. The picture quality is the same, but HDMI is more convenient since there's only one cable to worry about.

The PS3 should support DVI as you can get cables that are HDMI on one end and DVI on the other. The only downside is DVI has no sound but it will look the same.

Also HDMI 1.3 supports more colours but nobody that has a TV with only DVI supports that many colours anyway.

So other than Metroid and Mario what KILLER titles are coming out for the Wii. There are some really good ones coming for Xbox and PS3 early next year.

Is it possible to use the HDMI port for DVI video and some other port for audio, perhaps the optical-out port that everyone's making a fuss over? That should fix the sound issue.

Smash Bros. alone is arguably worth the $250 if it comes anywhere close to being what the GC masterpiece is.

If that's all you see in the game and its gameplay, then it's no wonder you don't understand. But there's more to it than what you're seeing.

I personally don't see those as "killer" titles.

I've made it a point not to buy from there ever again since they showed me how little they cared for customers, so I don't think I'll go shopping over there any time soon. Thanks for the tip nonetheless.

My local Circuit City is doing the same sale until the 25th (I believe) and they're giving out $10 gift cards with the purchase of two Wii games as well.

After unsuccessfully trying CircuitCity.com, I ordered from GameStop.com. My order says:

"Pre-Release, Ships 12/15/06"

Trouble is, most (all?) commercial HDMI implementations are infested with DRM called HDCP that can/will actually unnecessarily downscale/limit your image quality/resolution if the connecting device does not also abide by the HDCP DRM.

if titles like SSM and Mario arent ur thing, then dont bother with the Wii...cuz its aimed at the audience that likes those simple style puzzley games. its not a system to play call of duty 3 on...thats sexbox 360.

i want one for the fun of using the controllrs and playing with my parents and brother and girlfriend. i do plan on playing zelda though!

Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Animal Crossing Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy could all be considered KILLER titles, IMHO. As I scrolled down IGN's list of announced games, I saw many titles, Elebits being one, that looked like they could turn out to be great sleeper hits for the Wii.

PS3 - Warhawk, GTA IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Assassin's Creed (debatable as to whether or not it's a KILLER game)
XBox 360 - Halo 3, GTA IV (cross-console) , Assassin's Creed (another cross-console)

Sorry, but looking through all three lists doesn't make me worried about the Wii's number of top tier games. I'm excited about its future.

BTW, count me as another person who never understood the appeal of SSMB. I bought it for GameCube and me and my girlfriend at the time were quite disappointed. Its probably the only title I regret buying for the GC (Of course, I think I bought all of 3 games for the cube)

I thought Super Mario sunshine was the worst mario ever.

1 it i is super ugly but all you did was:

1) find a puzzle
2) solve puzzle by spraying water on it
3) repeat

I thought it looked gay and had a lame gimmick. Not one of the games I purchased.

Edit: I was also expecting the 'real' Mario to come out at some point.

The blue light is not constantly on. It only flashes on some occasions, such as when you power the unit on or when you get a message.

That's less true of Smash Bros. than it is of most fighting games nowadays.

Oh, and yeah, Mario Sunshine was the worst Mario ever. GameCube had no real Mario game.

The light doesn't power on ever except for .25 of a second when a disk goes in.

And Both Disks I have give that error randomly. I played both Sports a Zelda as much as I could.

Ok the straps are to breakable.

They caught one busting on video even:
YouTube - Wii remote plus SWEATY HANDS equals SMASH

Also here is another unit that has a busted blue light just like mine.

YouTube - Wii blue light not working right

Wow 2 defects in one unit for me.

Is it just me, or is that fishing line or something attached to his strap and not the actual cord? My cord does not look like that. In any case, he was really swinging that thing hard.

Looks like any other wrist strap's braided cord on mine. Certainly not like dental floss.

WTF was that guy swinging that hard in the tennis game?

It sounds like different Wiimotes are coming with different straps. The ones at the Nintendo kiosk at the local mall are a lot more substantial than that. How peculiar.

I've been playing Red Steel in spite of my first impression. My thoughts on this:

The main menu of the game is unnecessarily cumbersome to use, requiring you to drag what appears to be a menu item onto a "screen" on the menu to load games and options. The options themselves are not even clear until you put the cursor over them or drag them.

There seem to be some occasional graphical glitches in the game-- where a block pattern appears on the screen for a brief moment.

To zoom in, one needs to thrust the Wii-mote forward. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem very reliable for me, and zoom is pretty important when your in a firefight. I'd rather the "+" or some other button have been used instead.

I don't like a lot of the sword fights. They are grueling and really tire my arms. Maybe I'm not doing it right and putting too much effort into it, but I haven't found any other way to do it.

I imagine that this is just a case of different people describing (or seeing) the same thing in different ways. The part of the strap that connects to the remote is pretty thin, it's true, but what I was saying was that the strap in the video looked like it had some kind of wiry plastic-like cord attached instead of the nylon (?) cord on mine.

I think I agree with your impressions. I haven't played it enough to form a complete opinion, but the graphics are pretty pathetic, the controls seem needlessly complex, and the production values are low (still image cut scenes). And the voice actors can't really speak Japanese very well, either. There seems to be a lot more lag with the wiimote cursor than I have seen in other games, which adds to the control problems.

Just got my Wii this morning. Btw, **** Gamestop for not letting me buy it on Tuesday, even though they had the supply and just wanted to hold them until today. Just for that I bought all my games/accessories elsewhere just so Gamestop wouldn't make a profit off my sale.

Anyway, this thing is pretty cool. I've got Zelda but I haven't even opened it yet - too busy playing Wii Sports.

All glory to the hypnotoad.
