go ahead, call me crazy (no really, go ahead! )

wanted to update my pb (1.33g 12", no superdrive).

am not crazy about the macbook (glossy screen, keyboard);
and the 15" mbp is too big for my taste; i like the 12" size, i can carry it around with one hand, and i take it everywhere. it makes sense to me, just a keyboard & screen (i dont listen to music on the pb speakers, for instance).

the 12" just fits me well.

so....decided to get a new(er) 12":

1.5ghz, superdrive. NEW.

i can do all my work on my current pb (reason, logic, ps, inD, dreamweaver).
but i'd like a newer mac (my screen, for instance, is not as bright as it used to be, and i'd like the dvd burner).

so...
am doing this, and selling my pb for a 'good' price (with great software).

maybe by march i'll get a mbp, or add an imac to my life.

for now, am getting what i need, since apple wont give me what i want:
a 'pro' replacement for the 12" g4...

You're not the only one...i like my MacBook, but it's no 12" PB by a long shot.

The MacBook isn't intended to be a 12" PB, glossy screen aside. However, I don't see the extra couple of inches or so width and a little bit of depth making the 15" MBP that much bigger than a 12" PB; my wife's 12" iBook is not that much smaller than my 15" MBP. The weight difference is almost nonexistent as far as I'm concerned, too.

I think a 12" MBP is a ways off, but I also think it's more likely than a more powerful MacBook that could be a replacement for the 12" PB.

With my PB 12 inch G4 1.33 I've found that if I change the color profile in the Displays system pref to "sRGB" instead of the default "color LCD" that the screen appears much brighter and the colors more saturated.

I won't call you crazy - I would have done the same, if my 12" wasen't a 1.5Ghz with superdrive, and a new battery (thanks, Sony )

I also keep hoping for a Pro 12", but as ghporter said, I think the changes are very small..

well, a few things.
the size & weight is significantly different between the 12" & 15"...
i know, i carry my GF's 15" pb for her.

my screen has actually dimmed over the last year...

am working on a revA mbp right now.
nice, but now what i need.

am hapy with my decision, and we'll see what the future brings...

I originally wanted to get a 12" PB, but then I heard about the Intel switch and I waited. I thought there would eventually be an MBP 12", and there still may well be, but I went and got the MB instead. I don't regret it. It is quite small, and i can do without a backlit keyboard, aluminum case, etc. For your applications, however, I think that the 12" PB is still the better choice.

I'll get rid of my 867MHz 12" when someone prys it from my cold dead hands! I love the little thing, Apple needs a 12" MBP.

I have the 867mhz one, I thought for a while about upgrading it to a 1.5ghz 12". No fan problems, no heat problems, faster, better graphics, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, DVI.

But then I need the $$$$

Please note that I have a less than four week old MBP that a) does not get any hotter than any other laptop I've used, b) has a fan that sounds like it's there ONLY if I'm in an otherwise silent room, and has really good, fast graphics. Oh, and BT, USB 2.0 X 2, and DVI as well. The only problem (from your perspective) is that it's a 15.4" model, not a 12" model.

And that's precisely the point...I gave up waiting for a 12" MBP a while ago, but I'd jump on it in a second if Apple ever produced one. After using a 12" PB for 2 years, there is absolutely nothing to compare to that model (the 12" iBook is considerably bulkier).

just had my plan changed...by western union.

found a u.k. company online (with a "warehouse in los angeles)" with a n"ew 12" 1.5/superdrive", great price.

but...only accepts western union transfers;
i emailed the company, got support, but...
too suspicious (a LOT of online scamming out of the u.k.).
western union themselves encouraged me not doing this.

so...pass.
b&h in ny has this model...for $1490!! but thats ridiculous...

oh well, am happy (enough) with what i have (for now)

I was using a 12" 1.33GHz combo drive for the last 18 months. My wife has my previous 1GHz SuperDrive.

I received my 15" MBP C2D 2.33 on Monday. It is fantastic. Better screen quality, real-estate, and speed are all worth the jump in overall size for use around the house. An extra pound heavier is not that bad. That said, I've swapped the 1.33GHz for my wife's 1GHz and I'm carrying that around on my daily commute while the MBP stays at home. It's too new for me to haul around.

I had thought about getting a 12" 1.5 or parts to augment one of my existing machines, but I'm happy I went with the MBP.

and...
still want a 12" mac...

i NEVER use the speakers, dont like that space around the keyboard.
i dont need that much screen real estate, 90% of the time
(am just going to add an external monitor).

i want small, light. end of story.

Why not consider the Apple certified refurb 12 inch PB? They disappear quickly, but are available at the moment in the special deals section of the Apple online store for $1199 with the same 1 year warranty as new.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to try hooking up an external monitor to your existing 12" PB. The external monitor puts an extra load on the GPU, which generates more heat, which causes the fan to spin up most of the time. The MBP fan will spin up on occasion, but I'm pretty sure it's not because I have it connected to an external monitor.
