This question could be posted anywhere in this forum I suppose-

Mac OS X is designed to be "processor independent: but how dependent is it on other parts of the hardware configuration? Could one, as has been previously suggested, install Tiger on a Dell?

To that end, I ask the question - would it be possible to upgrade the processor to an Intel on a PowerPC machine? (reinstallation of OS X necessary of course).

I just bought a 15 inch powerbook, and im interested in having it last a long time. And the heat really bothers me. Which is why an Intel inside of it would be nice.

Uhh...the CPU is soldered to the main logic board. You can't replace the CPU in current Powerbooks. And an Intel chip would never work with the current architecture.

There are threads about this kind of thing all over. Your PPC powerbook is going to be fully supported by all major vendors, and working fine for three to five years at the very least. And no, you can't install Tiger on a Dell. If Apple enabled their OS to run on non-macintosh hardware, they'd put themselves out of business. There's a lot more to a computer than the processor - otherwise we'd all be looking forward to running OS X on our xBox 360's.

Relax.
All opinions are entirely those of my employer. It's not my fault.
