I just rented a car for 5 days from Hertz. It seems almost every airline will let me get miles for them, but I am wondering who is the most portable? Meaning, I want to get the most possible usage out of my miles. Should I send it over to Star Alliance? Amex Starwood? Any input would be helpful.
Thank you.

If you're looking for portability, Star Alliance isn't the way to go unless you plan to use the miles on international travel. For domestic flights your only choice is going to be United.

Why United? I'd love to hear.

I take that back. You could use them on US Airways as well, but other programs might allow you to use them on more airlines than just those two for travel within the US. What those programs are I have no idea.

I have both UAL and NWA mileage things. In general, NWA seems good since I fly Alaska Airlines pretty often.
