I went to make some chocolate pudding today and saw I had 2 different boxes of Jello pudding. One was instant and the other was cook and serve. I made the instant, because, well, it's faster. What's the difference though? Does the cook and serve taste better because you don't get the tiny powder clumps? They both use 2 cups of milk, have the same amount of powder, and end up with the same amount of servings. Is there any reason to go to the extra trouble of making the pudding you have to cook?

They have a far different taste - and the cook & serve one gets that film on top when it cools - that's my favorite part but I guess some people don't like that.

They will both hopefully come out the same, without side effects....

I don't like it, but you can avoid it by closing the bowl with cling film before the pudding cools down. The cooked pudding tastes better and you can decide about the amount of sugar yourself.

Hmm, I guess I'll have to give the other box a try. I believe it has been about 20 years since I had cooked pudding.
