Indeed.

I like my Canon 20D with IS lenses setup very much, but its #1 drawback is lack of short depth of field unless I use my prime lenses (which is a hassle).

I tend to go the other way. That's one of the many reasons I like long lenses.

Well, I agree, in that I usually prefer long lenses with IS, than just big fast lenses.

But Jawbone's pic above is one instance where having a fast zoom helps.

In general one characteristic puppies lack is stillness. Fast everything is important for puppy pics. And kitten pics-which is one reason why I have been looking at a replacement for my point and shoot Kodak; as serviceable as it is for most things, it's not as fast or as versatile as I'd like for things like kitten pictures. Or indoor macro pictures without having a huge studio lighting setup.

Brought him home just today (Sunday). He's still getting used to it, but coming along nicely.

Beautiful. Within a week he'll be jumping around and going crazy the moment you enter the door.

My cat Shadow - recently he has become the neediest cat ever, i think he is sensing that my wife is pregnant and knows he will soon be getting lower on the totem pole

Katie likes to run for sticks.

She is a white German Shepherd... protective, gentle and great with our kids.

Two years ago at six weeks. She looked a bit like a baby seal in the face.

Here's my Golden, not sure what I would do without him. Everyone that has/had a dog knows what I'm talking about.

Just sitting around and chilling.

He seems to strike this pose whenever he sees any other dog.

And yeah, I second that cat and dog usually get along pretty well if (the cat with us for 3 years when we got the dog as a puppy. I believe that matters.)
