That is a kernel panic. It's the OSX equivalent of a blue screen on Windows.
They can be caused by a hardware or software problem. Try reinstalling OSX, but if they persist it's probably bad hardware.

Have you recently upgraded your memory? Bad memory sticks can cause kernel panics as well.

Sorry you're having problems. But it would help if you put something descriptive in the title-a lot of users look for stuff related to their own machines and skip over what doesn't scream "I'm something you're interested in." Plus we have a rule about titles having to be descriptive. Anyway, please think about this next time. I'll change the title for you (users can only do that for a short time after creating a thread).

Reinstalling OS X will not erase your data. Unless you specifically tell it to reformat! Just go slow, read each window. But I think you want to try the usual suspects before you reinstall. Start up in Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key) and log into your account normally, run Disk Utility --> Repair Disk Permissions. If you are running 10.4 run it until it doesn't find anything wrong. Now, restart with your original System CD (again if this is 10.4) choose your language and go up to the menu bar, select Disk Utility, run Repair Disk. Reboot normally, report back in!

Plan B.
Sounds like a bad ram chip.
There is a Plan C, also.
But you have to tell us what Mac you have.
And what operating system you have.
