Any one else get this?? After restarting the left right balance for my sound is off... either too much to the left, or too much to the right.. and then I have to go and fix it..

Whatdya think? Hardware problem, or software?

I get this sometimes too. Not all the time, but sometimes on my PBG4/550 it'll be a notch over the left. Very aggrivating. This didn't happen on my PBG4/400 and it doesn't happn on my PMG4/Dual 867.

Several times I've thought my headphones were busted, only to find out OS X had forgotten my settings.

My sig aside, I've seen this on my iBook 600 dual USB.

I was having this problem a couple weeks ago, but when I saw this thread I went to check if it was off to the left again, but it's remained centered now. Maybe 10.2.4 fix it for me? I'm using the Apple Pro Speakers and an iSub with my 15" 800Mhz Superdrive iMac.

When I switch start up disks between 10.2.4 and 9.2.2 my speakers (SoundSticks) seem to take about 30 seconds to figure out what I just did - no sound comes out - then all is well again. I haven't had to mess with the balance at all.

She's too happy!

I've been having the same problem for a while. 10.2.4 didn't fix it. The other day, I trashed the Sounds preference file, and I haven't seen the problem come back yet. I still don't know if the fix is permanent, but it seems to be working so far.
The file is com.apple.soundpref.plist in /Library/Preferences
