Finally got spamassassin up and running on a redhat mail server.

Now, I need to add virus filtering to the mail server. It is providing mail services for both windows and os x computers.

Right now the server is running the latest sendmail, and spamassassin, and Redhat 9.0.

So, any suggestions on a good (free) virus filter for sendmail?

You could try MailCorral from BSM developers, AFAIK it is a GPL'd app but they ask for a donation, if their software works it'd probably be worth it. I've not used it before but it fits the cheap catagory.

For linux mailservers or sendmail SpamAssassin works. It doesn't catch all our spam, but its effective against virii attachments.

For others interested in this anti-spam software, you can find it at:

We have some plugins that do the virii filtering for it. I'll do some research and see what its called.

Ah yes, its called MimeDeFang. It strips off any attachments designated by an extension type or by its Mime-type. You decide which ones you will allow and which get pulled off and left in a 'quarantine' directory for you to process individually or simply set up a cron job to delete them.

Here's the link for MimeDeFang:
