change user-name in new finder?

ok this is just one quick question:
possibel to edit the user-name that is displayed on the left of the new finder in panther? it just shows my shortname there, and i don't like that, want my real name there..

I think if you go into accounts and change your shortname, that'll do it. If you change the name in your finder it messes things up, as has happened to me.

i can't change my shortname under pref/accounts.. the shortname is grayed and can't be edited...
i even tried logging in as root, but still no success.. this is really bugging me, no solution anywhere?

I think you can change it in NetInfo Manager (which is in your Utilities folder). Be careful though since you could mess up your accounts if you're not careful.

Don't edit your short name... you can easily get a lot of problems if you make a mistake, and you cannot change the name to your real name anyway.
You should "localize" the folder name instead. To do that, log in as "root", and edit the file "System/Library/CoreServices/SystemFolderLocalizations/en.lproj/SystemFolderLocalizations.strings" (with TextEdit)
at the end of the file, add the line:
"yourshortname" = "the name you want"
save the file and login under you normal account. Open the Terminal, and write
touch .localized
press enter and log out. When you log in again, your home folder will have the name you've chosen and this way, you won't have any problems at all.
