When I was a teen, I and my peers probably used a lot of slang that puzzled or annoyed the older humanoids. Every generation generates their own, and there are a few these days that are highly wince-inducing for me.

Forum-wise, my utter Unfavorite is "teh". I mean, get over it. "Pwned" ties for first place.

Second in line is "sweet", as in "That new iMac G5 is one sweet machine". Ugh.

Third, "sick" to describe something over the top, like "That's one sick dragon tattoo".

What slang would you rather go the rest of your life without hearing/seeing?

Finnah - however it would be spelled is really annoying. "I finnah go to the grocery store." Argh. I'm not even sure it has meaning. Does it mean "going to" or "planning to" - anyway, it's annoying.

I guess what gets me the most is the whole talk like you're from the ghetto crap. Either you are or you're not. It's one thing to use the occasional word or phrase for emphasis or effect, it's another to constantly slur words and speak like you've got a roll of quarters in your mouth.

And trust me, most people from the "ghetto" who talk like this aren't exactly the pride of the hood. People who I know who are from the hood tend to speak shockingly correct English.

You totally mangled that one. The phrase is actually "I'm fitting to go to the grocery store," but people too lazy to enunciate make it sound like "I'm fi'n' 'a go to the grocery store." You're right about the meaning: "fitting to" and its cousin "fixing to" both mean "going to" or "planning to."

I'm going to agree with whoever said "prolly." That is irritating on every level possible! Argh! It's "probably"!

As an aside, I'd also like to stress how much I hate it when people confuse "its" and "it's." No, it isn't slang, but it's exceedingly annoying. Possessive pronouns and adjectives do not have apostrophes!

For the record, I generally hate numbers for words, but in text messages on a cell phone, at least mine, that 160 character limit can be pretty tight, and u/ur/2/ helps sometimes.

if I had to pick something I hate, it's "brah" (for "bro") I always knew it as Hawaiian Pidgin slang, which was ok, but when the A&F wearing kids at school use it, it just sounds so unbelievably retarded.

I don't mind it unless people mispronounce it. The vowel sound is a schwa, which should be incredibly easy to say since it sounds just like "brother" if you stop after the O. I can't figure out why people pronounce it like it's a woman's undergarment.

No, see that's the weird thing, I get all the others, and I read them all as their full phrases, but LOL just stuck and I can't get it out of my head. I think at first I really did think it was a word, just really loudly pronounced ("OH MY GOD" "WOW" "HEY!" AND "LOL!") and it's burned into me

My speech teacher once told us about some "slang" she over heard when she was in the cafeteria. She wrote down the word "jeet" on the board. She said that's what it sounded like when some kids intended to ask one another if they ate already.

Just to say it again, it really is pathetic when people think ghetto culture is cool and needs to be mimicked.
