Hi guys and gal
I have got a breakthrough which i though i will share with you guys. Transfer files from your Windows XP will be a no more hassle case. Below are the details:
Test was done on a Sony Vaio PCG-R505TFP with a built in wireless card and a Ti 1Ghz Powerbook with intergrated airport card. Operating system for the Windows is XP and on the Powerbook is Mac OS X ver 10.2.5
1. You need to make sure that the workgroup name for both the Windows based computer/laptop and the Powerbook have the same workgroup name. For Windows XP, go to Control Panel--->System------>Computer Name. There you will see the Workgroup name of the Windows based PC/Laptop.
For Mac OS X ver 10.2.5, Go to Mac HD------->Applications------->Utillities----->Directory Access. On the services tab, click the lock to make changes. Then double click on SMB. There you can see whether you are having the same workgroup name as the Windows based PC/ Laptop.
2. Download WS_FTP from http://www.download.com . Install it in your Windows XP based PC/Laptop. For your Mac OS X Powerbook, go to System Prefernces------->Sharing. On the Services tab, Make sure the Windows File Sharing and FTP Access has a tick on the boxes.
3. Turn off all firewall programs on both the Windows based PC/Laptop and the Powerbook. On the Windows based PC/Laptop, shared a folder that you desire.
4. Make sure you can ping each other to make sure that both machines can communicate with each other.
5. Using WS_FTP, Create a new Profile name eg. Powerbook . Host name/Address will be the IP address of your Powerbook eg. 192.168.1.200. For Host type, leave it as automatic. Enter your user id and password that u created on the powerbook under system preferences--->accounts.
Thats all and you are set !
Enjoy and hopefully this will help you guys in transferring files from your Windows based PC/Laptop to you beloved Apple Powerbook.
Cheers.

You can access Windows shares directly within OSX - no need to setup anything or use any software, just copy the files directly between your PC and Mac. Wirelessly or wired, makes no difference (assuming the PC has a WiFi card).

Also, to be able to FTP to/from the Mac on the PC, you don't need to monkey with Windows workgroups or turning on Windows sharing.
FTP is TCP/IP based. It could care less about Windows sharing. If the PC can ping the Mac, then it can FTP to it. So just turn on FTP and you'll be set.

Actually, in finder, simply choose go->connect to server then type in the ip address. Make sure there is no firewall and both can ping each other. You will then be presented with the XP share directory. You can copy and share files already.

FTP also sends your password in cleartext...
I strongly SSH and SFTP/SCP.
