Hey everyone!
Carpe Stellarem is looking to hire a designer to create an icon for our next big OS X customization program- Xtender! We're looking for someone whos already designed a few icons so we can take a look at their work.
Xtender's icon needs to fit these guidelines:
Needs to look Aqua! Nothing extremely fancy. It needs to fit with the rest of Apple's icons wherever it lives (which will be in system prefs).
It will need to scale well. The icon will be used in advertising, and as a tiny System Preferences icon.
It will need to show the functionality of the application. We were thinking along the lines of a icon with a syringe (for the injection engine). Any ideas are welcome however!
The development is flying along quite nicely. While I can't say anything specific, we will be done far ahead of schedule.
If you're interested in designing an icon, contact me at gomac (at) mac.com. After supplying a sample of work we can talk about pay, and work from there.

How about you get people to post their icons and you pick them. Like the developers of Poisoned did, and they got some great icons out of it, probably why they change it every update

Sure, I see no problem with that.

The only thing I would suggest is to choose the icons yourself and not let the users vote on it. That caused a lot of tension and created a lot of stubborn users. Now everytime we change the icon theres a vocal minority that makes a point of saying how much the new icon sucks. I think if you just choose the icon people will be a little more accepting of it.
Glad to hear you guys thought changing the poisoned icon every release was a good idea though

If you do change the icon a lot you could keep an archive of all the past icons and keep them in the download package.

Aqclite allows users to change icons from inside the application (only 2 variations so far) is there any possible way to do that?

That indeed would be a good thing.

We could write in self icon changing, but it would probably be "hidden" functionality. Remember this is a preference pane icon too, not an app icon.

Then you want more of a logo like ShapeShifter has on the prefpain.
