It's always hard to figure out what to get my Dad for Christmas, so I thought it may be (or may not be) interesting to see what everyone else is thinking of getting their Old Man for Christmas.

Let's hear it!
"Everything's so clear to me now: I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant. Get it? And he knows it.
That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."

I'm getting him the Superman Movie box-set and an iPod Shuffle.

I think the shuffle will be perfect for him because the text on the iPods with screens is too small for him to see. Also, I think the Shuffle will be especially easy for him to use.

fixed

i signed up for a keybank account when they were offering the free nanos for echecking or something, they called up my parents house (up in college and registerd with my parents adress) saying that my ipod was ready for me to pick up. My dad then called me to see what teh heck they were talking about, and I said I won it, he said are you going to give it to me for xmas? i said sure why the heck not. So he picked it up, I asked him if he liked it, and said, what you aren't going to wrap it up for me?

So yeah i guess it won't be a supprise but hell, free present.

My dad always asks for books. Not going to happen this year, though. I don't know what I'm getting him yet.

Without any intention to mess up this thread, but my dad passed away this past May (no bs), but if he was alive I would have hugged him all day long.
Boys and girls, enjoy your parents!

Life is Good tshirt and a Rubik's soduku game. We're keeping it small this year and the folks are in florida so it has to be something that ships cheap.

Subscription to Smithsonian magazine. We do this every year and he loves it every year.

Of course we can't go wrong with giving dad something to read-or a gift card to buy something to read. He reads way more than I do.

Nice, very nice. I hope your dad appreciates it. BTW, you seem to be pretty good (judging from this one sample and my utter lack of expertise) at pottery, are you taking classes in Japan?

I got my parents an original painting a Turkish friend of mine has made. I've given it to a lady who'll frame it for me.

I find buying presents for my family to be incredibly stressful -- I always have almost no idea. I haven't bought any presents yet.

As a general rule, in my family, people are fairly explicit about what they want.

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

Hmmm...my dad doesn't drink and he doesn't smoke. I suppose I could get him electronic stuff, but he doesn't know how to work them. He LOVES plants but ends up killing most of them. So, I'd have to go with the never-ending gift of LOVE! That and I'm 7000 miles away and broke!

I'll probably get my dad a proper Qwerty cellphone - he's been using a REALLY old blackberry. I dunno why he never has the courage to buy stuff for himself even though he's bloody loaded.

That and like always the only time of the year when he lets me - take him out to dinner.

In addition to the Smithsonian magazine subscription, we invited my dad on a cruise in January. He said that anything that gets him out of Michigan in January is a wonderful thing. And he gets to hang with his one-and-only grandchild, our son (his choice too). I'd think that, as sharp as my dad is, he'd remember what a chore I was at 19 and manage to backpedal on this, but so far no!
