It's now available.

My first question: can you also automatically sync music with another user on the SAME computer or just between computers on a home network? I am always having to 'Add to library' to get stuff I buy into my wife's library.

Could you set up a VPN with your work computer and have it sync to your home network?

Everybody and their brother is downloading it... geesh, started off fast but then the cat is out of the bag and now downloading at 45.6 KB/sec

I look forward to tinkering with all the new bells and whistles.

I have the same question.

Being able to arrange apps on my iPhone through iTunes will be very welcome though.

It asked for my account info when I went to set it up at work. I wonder if it will connect with my home computer once I upgrade there and enter my acct info.

Re: Home Sharing

So, from what I understand this is not as revolutionary as it sounds.
All it allows is to automatically copy purchased songs over to other libraries.

Is that it ?

That was the implication I caught from engadget's pic. I was hoping someone would be able to clear that up.

Well, regarding the mini player, it's now similar to the Windows version of iTunes where you had to click on a menu command.

Also, took them 9 versions but the mini player now shows the x, -, +, in the traffic lights when using the Blue appearance.

You can also option-click on the + (green) button to get the mini-player. I get that this is more consistent with other apps, but I hope they change this back, or at least make it a preference. Ick.

I was thinking the buttons looked like a cross between the originals and the latest gen. But that's not a complaint.

yeah, uh... how do i change album cover sizes in grid view?? and, more importantly, how do i get a dark background for that view? all this worked in previous itunes..

ah, time to gripe! buttons and volume slider look a little...weird. will adapt, but wondering about the above view...

So far the only positive thing about iTunes 9 for me is that it’s the last major release before the complete Cocoa rewrite. I hope.

My, those icons are foul. Very windows like. What happened to that understated Mac design ethos.

Installed 9, now my Touch won't show up on the left Library pane. The touch cable light on the hub goes out after about 10 secs. ARRRRG! ANY ideas? HELP please!

Never mind. I reset the Touch (didn't know about the hold the power button a few seconds thing to reset) and now it's all good.

That's because I hadn't gotten here yet.

Bad Apple! BAD! Go sit in the corner! You FINALLY had a consistent window appearance in Leopard/SL, and you ruined it. No treats for you!

First it deleted all the photos from my Touch and said there was no room, so I had to delete a movie, then it would sync. Yet I had over 300mb free before iTunes 9 and still had this room free, I don't get it.

And I can't arrange my apps, that right hand area of the screen is just blank for me, the Apple web page shows the Touch's home page there.

So far, a cludge.

I thought Blu-Ray in iTunes sounded odd, after all DVDs have their own application.

So when are we going to get support for Blu-Ray video disk playback in OS X? How is the built-in support for disk reading / burning in 10.6?

I had to:

1. quit iTunes
2. delete ~/Library/Cookies
3. Fire up iTunes and ask it to update genius (under store)

I was getting an error until I did that.
(Credit to the apple discussions for the fix.)

I know you got yours working, but maybe this will help someone else.

Yeah, I wasn't getting any errors. It just wasn't there until I waited long enough for it to create it. I also read that if you choose Store > Update Genius that it would create them immediately. However, I didn't read that until after mine were done automatically so I can't vouch for effectiveness of that tip.

I have to agree with TheoCryst. I have absolutely no idea what they were smoking when the redid the UI, for seemingly no purpose either. It's not "prettier", and if that's what 10.7's UI is going to look like... dear god, count me out.

I just "upgraded" to 9. in *, I could click on green and minimize to a compact window with all the functionality I needed to play the radio in the background. Now, when I click on green, it randomly resizes and drops the window down from the top of the screen just a bit. How do I get the old minimization back?

I've gone on the record praising SL, but Itunes 9 is just stupid.

PS: How do I downgrade back to 8?

I found out how to minimize into mini player: click on green button while holding down option key. It's also available under view.

Question no. 2: how to turn white background into old black background.

Itunes 9 = Epic Fail.

Option-click the green button.

I'm SO glad they finally fixed this behaviour. Having the green button switch between modes rather than just sizing-to-fit (standard behavior for every other application on the mac for over twenty years) was just completely, utterly brain-dead.

Gosh people really never get tired of posting asinine nonsense on these boards do they? So iTunes 9 is an "Epic Fail" because they changed the default minimise behaviour (so that it is actually more consistent with the OS GUI) and made a background white?

I would say that when the biggest complaint people have about a mainstream app is that they don't like the background colour, the developers are probably doing quite a good job, no?

really, what kind of people would use a mac forum to discuss or complain about a mac app?
anyway...i have no problem with i9 yet, except it's ugliness.

so...anyone figure how to change that grid background to grey or black?

I don't think wulf was saying people shouldn't complain about it here, just that "Epic Fail" is a pretty big exaggeration given the nature of the complaints. Especially since hitting the Zoom button to get the Mini interface never really made sense.
