Ch-ch-check it out.

http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=19386

I've been interested in trying this out. I'm on a MBP CD 2GHz with 256 X1600. Will report back with performance.

I've been running it a lot the last few days on my MBP C2D 2.33 1600 w. 256M VRAM and I've gotta say that I'm pretty happy with performance. I haven't bothered to check frame rates or anything. Oddly, it feels faster to me than Doom 3 does, even though they're built on the same engine.

I love the story line. A nice little twist on the old FPS theme. I've played through the demo several times and each time I get to the end I've really wanted to keep going. I guess that's the mark of a good game and a good demo.

Those who don't like swearing might want to stay away.

Performance these days is often linked to the number of shaders used by the game...tons of shaders used in, say Halo and Doom 3. Probably not so much in Prey.

Another explanation could be that Prey (like the latest Quake 4 patch and WoW) is probably using the multithreaded OpenGL feature in 10.4.8.

Did anyone try it on a macbook? It says the intel graphics aren't supported at all. Is this the first game where the intel graphics mean we can't even play it (rather than play it in crappy quality)?

The "read me" from the downloaded demo states G5 1.8 or better, and also does not support upgraded cpus, but plays OK on my dual g4 DA 1.8 + 9800 card in low quality 800 x 600.

454 Mb download.
Gee, I hope they're friendly..........

I just got this game, and so far I'm really really impressed. The graphics seem to be better than quake 4 or doom3, in my opinion, and the originality of the level design is pretty awesome.

Gheff,
you can turn off profanity in options.
Very good demo. Great graphics on my MBP C2D 2.33 Ghz, pretty awesome. Don't know if I'd be interested in yet another corridor maze 1st person shoot 'em up though. Hopefully the ship will land on a planet or something with a more expansive environment. Tunnel shooters can make me nauseous...

had all settings maxed out on my MBP without any problems.... but I did find the game boring... like someone else said... just another maze.

Yeah, it's like that for a little while, but the gravity switches are a new element that's pretty fun to use.

Nah! I like the swearing. But thanks.

I've been playing the full game. I've gone through it in both normal and "Cherokee" modes now. Love it. There are lots of tight corridors it's true, but there are some vast rooms in which you will both walk and fly. Almost dizzying to look over the edge down into the vastness. And the gravity switches can make it even more dizzying.

Perhaps I'm alone in this, but I love it and I'm itching for more.

The plot of prey is far from being thrilling.

Plot? This is a first person shooter. Who expects a plot?

Shoot, shoot and shoot some more until you kill the ultimate bad guy. That ought to be enough plot. Right?

I kid, I kid.

What would make it better?

I know this is M but how much M? My son and I played through Halo and I had no problem with it. We managed to deal with the Flood with no lasting emotional damage. Swearing isn't a problem so much as the charming child swears like a sailor at this point (altho I know you can turn it off). Mostly I want to know if it's so creapy and bloody the two of us will be scared or scarred for life. Cruelty seems to be the main problem for this kid. Straight out killing, no problem.

Any thoughts?

It's just like halo, only creepier. Not really a big deal, IMHO.

If you played through the demo, you have seen the best Prey has to offer.

They never take the wall-walking or Portals further then they go in the demo, and the fact that you can never die really makes the game dull.

It was a decent rental on the 360, but very mediocre overall.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Thanks. Now I think we can go through the demo without too much risk.
