Rob took 3rd place, US $1000 and our sincerest congratulations, info here.
Well done, note that the 1st and 2nd have a team of people behind them, as does the 4th… while this is a one man job. Awesome.

congrats to him. I like that his device is functional, not just a nag-o-meter type thing.

"Awesome" is one word you could use to describe this event.
I can think of some others but I won't share them.

Are we going to let him stay here long enough to post about this a bit before banning him?

My wife wants to buy one, when can we expect anyone to start manufacturing them?

The winner is a "Weightwatchers" module for greenies -- shame on you for using so many KwH. Oh brother, what a bunch of crap.
Rob's is practical & attractive. And uses the female body for promotional purposes. Good for you Rob.

Oh come on now; it's a solid idea that can be used for many purposes; lots of people are interested in energy efficiency as a general principle.

it's a solid idea that others have already come up with. oooooo, a dry rack made out of wood. it's just a spin off from an already existing product.

But... it's a spin-off that (at least in theory) uses green-friendly "sustainable" materials (great marketing tool) and has a simple, elegant design.
Taking something previously done, and doing it better and more elegantly. Sounds familiar doesn't it....

I should buy one, just so I can tell people to get stuffed whenever they bitch over how much energy we use.

For someone who is banned from these forums he sure has a following. Perhaps overturn the ban? The membership seems to like him.

That's largely because the banning is unjust and simply ridiculous nowadays.
Those that think he has a behavioural issue should consider the possibility that it's the *result* of idiotic admin practices.
Anyway, congrats man, awesome ****.
I'd buy one.

y'all are missing my point. it's not an original idea. he's making money off other peoples ideas. only reason he probably got enough votes for third place was because he spammed other forums he frequents like he did this one. he does not deserve any prize money for his dry rack made out of wood.

If you read the article, you'll see that they had a panel of judges. It wasn't determined solely by who got the most Internet votes.
You gotta admit Rob's entry is more useful than either the first or second place entries.

so are the other drying racks made out of wood you can buy. it's an un-original idea. that's the point of the entire contest, come up with new things that can help green the planet. not rip off other peoples ideas. i'm done trying to get my point across to y'all. ya obviously don't get it.

I think your history with Rob clouds your judgement. It's a very nice design.
It's a new design for an existing product and criticizing it for the fact that there already are other dyring racks made of wood out there is like criticizing a car design for the fact that -- like most other cars -- it has four wheels, doors and is made of metal.
I also agree with CharlesS that his entry is much more useful and nice-looking than first and second place.

Way to go Rob.
I like the design and remember some pictures he posted of his desk that also looked nice. I also don't remember him ever spamming anyone here to do his bidding. Rants about SUVs yes, nagging me to vote on something no.
Edit: I stand corrected. Apparently he did ask us to vote on this and I missed it.

True. I liked his entry and the LaundryPOD way more than those 1st and 2nd entries… 1st prize is cool for a science class, but it fails when put under a design perspective, in short, it is ugly as sin.
The LaundryPOD is just the opposite, a non intimidating friendly design, my favorite. It easily beats 1st and 2nd prize.
I just don't understand 1st prize, I guessed this thing was aimed towards Industrial Designers, not Electric Engineers…
