Looks pretty cool, it would be interesting to see what it is like when compared to VPC!

Yep. That thing better support the GPU natively at 200% of original speed.

Will be interesting to see what the pricing, etc. will be.

I manage several Linux servers remotely and it would be nice to have a test environment on hand for development/testing purposes without having to keep a cheap PC running for that purpose.

It has a photo of a 1.5 GHz machine running a PC window at an effective 500 MHz spec. This is interesting, but not much faster than VPC. My 1.3 GHz G4 can run XP as if it were a 266 MHz machine. A bump to 500 MHz won't mean a whole lot.

half-life was supposed to come to the mac a long time ago, but was killed for various reasons by either activision or sierra (one of those game houses). it was also known that the proposed half-life for mac was going to be incompatible with its pc counterpart, so you could not play it online with the other half-life users who were running it on windows. search google and you'll find several articles about it.

I dunno, I don't see why anyone would want to make a fake about this. It seems reasonably legit. Why would they specify a release date that's so soon then?

It's available now.

It's apparently based on the open source Qemu.

$23.95

I'm not going to pull the trigger on this until I see something better than Solitare running on it.

Did they add any extra functionality that's useful? An easy to use front-end or something? Or is this basically a repackaged QEMU?

Qemu doesn't have a GUI. I couldn't get it to run (permission error or something). If iEmulator makes this double-click runnable it might be worth some money. There is also a GUI frontend called QemuX which is free. Maybe if you're interested try that one first.

I realize QEMU doesn't have a GUI. I was simply asking if that was the main enhancement that this program offers. If it has a nice GUI, it's a legitimate enhancement. I'm just curious.

The thing that makes me wonder about this one is the performance claims. All reports I've seen so far have said that QEMU was a bit slower than VPC, not faster. And their claims - 1.4 GHz integer and 3.2 GHz floating-point on a G5?! - makes me wonder if this is an entirely new emulator or a CherryOS-type scam.

edit: The other thing that bothers me is that QEMU is, by the authors' admission, a pre-release program and not really ready for general use yet. If iEmulator is basically a repackaged QEMU, then they are doing their customers a disservice by not telling them that they are selling them what is basically alpha software.

I'd use it only to play one game, Darklands. And that's it.

Wow, looks pretty cool. Something that's not Vaporware and could be used to run Windows cheaply if needed! It does look pretty quick, and it's cheap I may just purchase it to try it out. So long VPC!

Man, the two videos are definitely a joke. Benchmarking software on DOS? Productivity application using Wordpad? It looked pretty good until I watched the two videos. Does anyone know if the software supports video hardware acceleration?

This smells.

Why don't they give a real demo of it running a demanding application. Wordpad and solitaire? Those previews don't mean squat.

Great performance at such a low price? If it was so good, they would charge a lot more for it. This thing stinks like a viagara/cheap mortgage/rolex watch spam email.

Can this emu only run standard programs like solitaire and wordpad? Cause if that's it it's pretty lame, but I am confused on whether or not you can play PC games on a mac, like Vice City (I sadly don't have PS2 ) or whatever....

Plus, where the heck do you dowload it.....

I guarantee you can't play Vice City anywhere near a comfortable speed.
I doubt you could even get it to launch.

If you can make a better emulator that can do it, go for it. Microsofts own emulator can't play games well. The point is for people who need to use Windows programs every so often.

look around the forum for a program called qConfig.
It's a free version of this program more or less. (A GUI frontend for QEMU)

Microsoft Visio, any number of mapping programs such as Microsoft Streets and Trips, are among the programs that people use on Virtual PC that have no good Mac equivalent yet.

Have you tried running Visual Studio in VPC ? I can only guess that it would be a pain, I don't know anyone who tried...

I also use VS for schoolprojects, thats why I bougt a Dell instead of a powerbook last year.

QemuX looks promising, anyway: it should soon be at version 0.14, with a new interface, according to the developer.

I've tried it. Speed is horribly slow. You click buttons repeatedly and you have to wait and wait for something to happen. VPC Flies in comparison to it. This software runs like VPC did two or three versions ago, when you would watch new windows open up, drawn slooooowly line at a time. I used it first. Then I went to its web site, and watched the demo videos. I was shocked, their videos look like they are using an actual pc. The real speeds are so slow you'll think your running vpc3 on a 601. I was using windows 2000, just as they do in the demos. I'm on a dual 1.8G5, 1.25 GB of ram, 384 of which was given to windows. This program is a scam, its a half assed gui wrapped around an unfinished X86 emulator designed to trick people into sending them money. Watch out.
