I know SJ said 2 weeks... But on the Apple Store it says 2 to 4 weeks and it's already been a week since the expo conference.

If someone as more info, please post.

From my understanding, the new 17 inchers will not ship until 10.2 is ready and loaded...

I hope so. If they ship it after my gf goes to school, I get to keep it until Labor day and she gets to take my iBook!

Apple Store (are they at all reliable?) told me that Jaguar wouldn't be available until Aug 24. That's more than four weeks from NOW (let alone last week). They also said that I would therefore get it without and have to rder it for the $20.

Waiting is driving me nuts. I am "switching" and very excited about it. I didn't even know the 17" iMac was JUST announced when I decided last Friday that I had to have one.

I don't think the 17" will come with 10.2

In his speech SJ said that all xomputers ordered from know on would be intitled to the 20$ "free" upgrade.

Could as soon as someone get a confirmation, post?

The wait is driving me mad also. I ordered mine at a local dealer on saturday. There's no Apple Store in Canada yet...

I'm fifth in line to get mine at that store (it's a national store) and they ordered 50. So I'll be one of the first to get here up here...

Here's a bigger question.....

If i wait to order a new iMac until 10.2 is shipping with it, then i'll just receive the regular 10.2 System disk with the unit....

BUT

If i use the Up-to Date program, and front the $20 -- will i receive the "entire" Jaguar "box" with the developer tools et al????

How'bout a Fresca? MMMmmm. MMMmmm.

I ordered one from the Apple Store on July 18. On July 24, I received an email from Apple customer service stating that my order was not anticipated to ship for at least 22 business days. By my math, this puts shipment sometime after August 23.

I strongly believe that 17" iMac will only accept 10.2 and later. Just look at the 1440x900 pixel count. NOTHING in 10.1.5 supports 1440x900.

The 17in at the apple store was running 6c98 went there so this whole idea that it might be a jaguar only deal sounds pretty valid (all the other 15 inchers where running 10.1.5) damn they better get to releasin jaguar quick!

Yeah discovering this leaves me extremely screwed... I leave for college the 24th... I guess I will have to make them ship it to me at college... any one know if its possible to change your shipping address? Something like changing the shipping address sounds kinda shifty to me (theif just calls up apple and tells them to ship it to his house... makes things easy for him)... damn apple why must it be a love hate relationship.

I ordered from MacConnection last Friday. I told the person who took my order that I was leaving for school around August 23rd and he said that they were expected to ship the first week of August. I hope he's right! I would not be happy if I had to go back to school without a computer.

Seriously, I support apple and defend nearly all their actions (ok I won't defend the 130 for jaguar but thats probably not a topic for the imac board... those bastards) But now that I have convinced so many people to switch and I feel so confident that macs are great how am I going to explain myself if all the pc users move in their new computers and I have to say "sorry apple lied to me when they said 2-4 weeks... apparently because I am a mac user I like pain and that extra 5th or 6th week is a bonus"
but thats just me warming up my rant mode if we hear about delays.
I would say that today, july 27 should be official start crossing your fingers day.

Can`t find any onfo at all in the online Apple store about any shipping delays?! Are`nt they supposed to put that up if they can`t ship? I`ve seen this before on other "freshly" released models...

I'm in Toronto, Canada, and anxious about my new 17" arriving as well...
I took time off in the middle of August to bring my files over and set everything up. I had assumed (since Apple took a lot of flack last time for the shipping delay and the reason for that shipping delay was the creation of a whole new machine - not really applicable in the case of the 17") that there would be no probs this time.

To get a second opinion, I called a smaller local shop, and they told me a month. Then, I called the larger shop that I had pre-ordered from. They told me:
- probably a week or two until arrival
- they had received an email (from Apple) about it shipping with 10.1.5
- it will ship with up to date coupons in the box allowing me to update to Jag for 19.95 US (about 30 bux Canadian)
- I am number 15 on their list!

I take this all with a grain of salt as you should too. The guy seemed to know what he was talking about, but...an email from Apple means about as much as Jobs saying "two weeks". He said it with the intro of the 15" and he was wrong then, so...I wish us all luck on a fast delivery!

I have heard so many different stories in regards to the 17" ship date. With the latest delay, I can only assume that the holdback IS, in fact, OS 10.2.

Maybe I misunderstood you, but why would it take 2-4 weeks to get it if they're already shipping and I ordered 2 day delivery?

It's probably only the new orders that are backorder.

All orders in the first few days will probably be shipped when they star shipping... But, WHEN!!??

I've seen people get stung with this before. They think that by ordering direct from the company, they will get it sooner, but the mfr instead ships the first units to come off the line to third-party vendors. Those of who ordered first may be the last to get them.

I feel like I'm repeating myself a lot (and probably annoying you guys), but I'm new to Apple. Is this a stunt they're likely to pull?

Well fwah...this means 10.2 will not be preloaded. Bollocks.
Are there any potential "problems" associated with installing "Jaguar" "over" 10.1.5? Personally, I'd rather have 10.2 on the drive to begin with...*sigh* I hate computers.

I think it says Late August?

I think thats the time frame we're looking at. MacConnection told me that they were shipping the first week in August when I ordered, and when I called today they said "two weeks from now."

I'm disappointed in the fact that at MacWorld they have a lot of great new products but none of them are available for over a month. It's happening with Jaguar, the new 17 inch iMac, the 20gb iPod... I'm going to be very upset if I have to go back to school without my new iMac.

The lack of information from Apple has made me increasingly frustrated.

wait does "late september mean" you get your computer in late september if you order it now? or all computers already ordered ship in late september?
or that apple hates its costumers and just wants to screw them over until they stop coming back?

Compusmart, a certified Canadian e-tailer and retailer of Mac products and accessories says:

iMAC G4/800 256/80GB SUPERD/NV17/ 17"TFT 100BT 56K SPKRS 805193

$3,149.99

Coming Soon. Due to arrive in 11 Days. (8/16/2002)

link :

http://www.compusmart.ca/product.asp...eE778XS3760489

I would tend to trust their dates. So it may be even sooner in the states.

God look at that price Apples gonna break me! Europeans get a discount, wheres your friendly neighbors discount?!?!

*edit* hmmm it seems canadian e-tailers can no longer sell mac products online. So I assume this means they will be in the actual stores by the 16th.

Now MacNN says it's official the iMac started shipping... But they base that info only on one of the forum poster who says so... Give us more info MacNN.
