the 8500 should technically support os 9.x, so I don't see why it shouldn't work. As long as you've got enough RAM, I don't think you should have problems... except that it probably won't run too fast unless you've upgraded the proc too. I've been thinking about installing it on my 8500, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Let me know what happens.

After upgrading the processor to a 604e/233 card, my old 7500/100 runs OS 9.1 with NO problems. (before the upgrade however, it was running OS 9.0.4 with out a hitch!

Hi Fred,
We have OS 9 running on some of our Mac 5500's in the schools. They are a little slower, but very usable. You just need to be sure that you have plenty of memory... also, instead of looking for a copy of 8.5 (which I have seen run between $70-99 still), you might want ot look into getting a G3 or G4 upgrade card, which would make your machine that much more usable and last that much longer .
best of luck,
dave

I have 9.1 currently running on my 8500/150. Maybe I lack perspective, but it doesn't feel slow or overly unresponsive. I say go for the upgrade!

Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?
