A friend of mine just bought an old II-series Mac and ImageWriter for $20. He wants me to set it up for him. Yeah, I know he needs to get an iMac, but what I've gotta do with this one is show him how useful a Mac is.

It has ClarisWorks 1.0 on it, and he wants me to set up his accounts for his business on it, as well as catalog his record collection. I need to know if this is possible with CW 1.0 (I use 4.0), and what else impressive can i do with 8MB RAM and a slow 68030 chip.

Also would System 7.5.3 work well on this?

Firstly, if you can, install RAM Doubler 8 on it to triple the RAM.

Run System 7.5.5 on it.
ClarisWorks 4.0 will run well on it.
Also, Netscape Navigator 2.2, latest version of ircle, Anarchie 3.7, Fetch 3.0.3, BetterTelnet, Finance, Hotline Client and Server 1.2.3, Hotline Tracker 1.1, BBEdit Lite, ZipIt and many many more programs.

The site at http://www.ausmac.net/ausmac.cgi?page=archive may help you with some of those programs.

ram is defintely essential for even the latest performers . although you might wanna look at shareware for your friends' computing needs . you can try out a particular software that fools hardware ( like fooling a 68030 it's anything higher or lower ) called " wish i were " . also you can try out iCab ( latest version 2.0 - www.icab.de) it's one of the smallest has a 68K version but it also has a lack of javascript - I couldn't view quicktime streaming movies . all this information can be gotten at lowendmac . go to versiontracker too . HUNT !
