I wouldn't really recommend carrying your powerbook around while it's running, especially in a backpack. The jostling may kill the hard drive.
Maybe an iPod is the right choice?

I wouldn't do that. Having a PowerBook on while it's closed, being carried around in a bag = no ventilation = really ****ing hot computer.
