Target now discounting iPhones, offering rebates on iPads, iPod touch

US retail chain Target is now offering gift cards with the purchase of any of a selected range of iOS devices, including the iPod touch, the iPad Air or Retina iPad mini, or the iPhone 5s or 5c. In addition to the gift card, Target REDcard users receive an additional five percent off the normal price. Buyers of the iPad (in any variety or capacity) will be given a $100 Target gift card, while those opting for the 32GB iPod touch will get a $30 gift card. The retailer has discounted the 16GB iPhones to $100, and buyers also get a $20 gift card.
The sale is set to run through July 12. As reported earlier, T-Mobile is about to launch a Back-to-School promotion that offers a $100 gift card rebate to buyers who purchase both an iPhone and iPad from the carrier. Apple is also offering its own Back-to-School promotion, which likewise offers gift cards as rewards for purchasing iPhones, iPads or Macs.
For Mac buyers, however, the best deal might be available from electronics chain Best Buy's website, which is still taking $120 off the retail price of all current-model iMac units (on top of an additional discount of $150 if buyers have an .edu email address), as reported in our Friday Deals column.

Sigh. They are not "discounting" anything. They're the same price as anywhere else. Unless, of course, you are a Red member (which applies to ANYHING you buy in the store, not just Apple products).

Grendelmon, I'm confused by your comment. The regular contract price for a 16GB iPhone 5s is in fact $199, so for Target to be offering it for $100 represents, yes, a discount (and that's before the $20 gift card "rebate," which could also be counted as a "discount"). As explained in the article, REDcard members get their normal extra five percent on top of all that.

The article headline says "Target now discounting iPhones, iPads, iPod touch." Only the iPhones are "discounted." The iPads and Touches are not, and are the same price as anywhere else.
