Veteran Apple and Macintosh accessory reseller Dr. Bott is closing its doors after 15 years in the business, and offering discounts on its remaining stock to liquidate its inventory. The Wilsonville, Oregon-based company, which acted as both a vendor and distributor of its own and other companies' products, said it was "sad to announce" the closure, but did not elaborate on the reasons behind it.

"We are actively liquidating our inventory through www.drbott.net and our reseller channels," the company said in a statement. "Shop now for best selection. Inventory is selling fast and products are selling out daily. We currently have inventory from more than 100 vendors, including some of the most compelling brands in the market.

"We are honored to have been a part of the Apple market during such a significant time in its history. It has been a privilege to have partnered with so many vendors and retailers. We hope that we have played some small part in their long-term success," it added.

Given the tremendous expansion in the Mac and iOS accessories market over the past few years, the decision to exit the market is puzzling. One possible explanation is a reduction in the need for distributor middlemen to act as go-betweens for mostly China-based manufacturers. Such suppliers have become more adept at marketing to resellers directly in recent years.

Dr. Bott offered a number of its own branded products over the years, and most recently exhibited at this year's CES convention. Its current closeout is aimed mostly at resellers, with job lots of products offered for sale, and free ground shipping for orders over $1,000.
