Sprint has debuted the 'iPhone forever" plan, giving users on the plan the ability to upgrade to the latest iPhone at any time while on the plan. Starting today, new and upgrade eligible Sprint customers can get an iPhone for $22 per month. Anytime customers don't have the latest iPhone, they are eligible to upgrade by bringing the older iPhone into a Sprint store, and upgrading on the spot.

Through December 31, customers on any other carrier or existing Sprint customers who are upgrade eligible and turn-in any smartphone will get a promotional rate of $15 per month on a new iPhone 6. An upgrade made after December 31 will force the monthly lease rate to the $22 per month rate. The $22 per month rate and early promotional rate is for the 16GB iPhone 6.

The new Sprint plan is intended to compete with T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan, and AT&Ts Mobile Share value. Sprint's $22 per month plan doesn't include data, nor does the release by Sprint detail how the plan interfaces with family plans. No pricing has been given for upgrade to an iPhone 6 plus or configurations with more memory.

The special offer through December 31st for an iPhone 6 seems very odd since well before that there will be a newer iPhone model on the market. So that begs the question...if a customer takes advantage of this offer, say on December 15th, do they then turn around and go back to the Sprint store later that day or the next day and turn it in for the new iPhone 6S (or whatever the new iPhone is called)? Am I understanding their program correctly?

Yup, you understand it correctly. However, the low-end lease price is for the 6 with 16GB. I'm pretty sure that whatever the new low end is will be the same low-end lease price, with prices escalating rapidly from there.

This isn't a good deal. Not even close.
