Pc in punch row moved from duties

A police officer who used "brute force" when he struck a young black woman "as hard as I was physically able" while arresting her has been removed from frontline duties.

Pc Anthony Mulhall, of South Yorkshire Police, said he hit Toni Comer, who was 19 at the time, to subdue her so she could be handcuffed during the incident outside the Niche nightclub in Sheffield last July. The incident was captured on CCTV.

Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes, of South Yorkshire Police, said the move was to protect his officer and restore public confidence in the police.

Ms Comer, now 20, is pursuing a civil action against the force.
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm...html?menu=news

When a person resists arrest and it requires force to subdue the person then the Police should quickly and effectively subdue the person. If he hit her hard it's because he's SUPPOSED to hit her hard enough to subdue her. When the Police get a reputation for being soft on criminals then disdain and contempt is bred.

The Brits are turning into dumb pussies.

Here's what astonishes me, right. In the fourth century BC, Buddha might have met the child Socrates. And Shakespeare and Cervantes both died in 1616! In 1638 Milton met Galileo in Florence. There was a period during which Mozart and Beethoven both walked the earth together, and met at least once, until Mozart died in 1791 at the age of thirty five. Beethoven died 36 years later, in 1827, the same year as William Blake.

Ok then, let us choose a certain moment between 1890 and 1900. Let it be the Wednesday, July 6, 1898. Joyce, Kafka, and Picasso are teenageres. Freud is in his thirties. Nietzsche is approaching his final descent into madness. Hitler is nine years old.

And it's all true. Work it out for yourself.

"Hard enough to subdue a 19-year-old girl" ≠ "as hard as I was able"

Unless that officer is indeed a dumb pussy who couldn't beat up a teenage girl.

There is a difference between hitting someone hard enough to subdue them, versus hitting someone "as hard as I was physically able". Totally inappropiate behavior as an officer of the law.

You are amazing. Without having enough information about the situation you can't make a judgment on the situation.

This as well as some of your other statements leads me to believe you regularly go off 'half-cocked' about things on a regular basis.

go off half-cocked - act prematurely or without reflection or too soon; "she wanted to quit her job but her mother told her not to go off half-cocked"

How do you know that wasn't the best course of action? How do you know the woman's size or the Policeman's strength?

You don't. So, basically you are jumping to an emotionally fueled conclusion without sufficient evidence with which to know what you are talking about.

What you have done is to take the reported facts of the story and then filled in the variables according to your own imagination.

What I did was to support the Policeman's decision and actions. He was there you weren't. He is trained to deal with these things and likely has done so in the past. You, likely, aren't and haven't. If he had to hit her as hard as he physically could there was a good reason for it.

Thanks but it's not a subject I care much about. I don't post for controversy, I post to express myself, as most people do or should.

But thanks for the invite.

Why do you like to give people the benefit of the doubt? Maybe if more people were less willing to offer their unwavering and unquestioning support of the president, we wouldn't be in such a predicament?

Why are you so trusting of any dude with a uniform, but so damn paranoid about terrorists lurking behind every bush? Do you think this teenage girl was a terrorist?

Yes, to keep spammers out, but if you are worried about us knowing who you are you could pick a nickname like "Not Marden" to fool us.

Seriously, if you are worried about your privacy, registration is not your concern. It is easy to get a throwaway email address to expose, this is not your concern. Your concern is, every time you post as a guest or member to any board, the admins can determine your IP address. Your IP address will expose more of your geographical location and your ISP information than an email address.

She got off easy. If she did that in Milwaukee, they would have noticed her skin color and shot her black ass. Cops around here are racist pieces of crap. A year or so ago a black guy showed up to a party with a woman who was friends with some people at this party, and then left, and some off duty cops followed and beat him to a pulp, sending him to the ER. They got off scott free. I HATE milwaukee PD.

I agree that we are complacent.

How often do you hear "I want to be a prize fighter", compared to "I want to *stay* a prize fighter". It is hard to maintain ones place on their throne.

The complacency is not just in our economy or standard of living though, it is in our education system, it probably manifests in a number of other places too. Superpowers never last indefinitely, c'est la vie!

If you are really worried about this, my suggestion is not to trust any old dude in a uniform. We need to be sharper and more questioning in our own thinking, not less.

You will have a difficult time convincing me that the things Ann Coulter says are productive in any way, shape, or form.

I value intellect over bravado, it sounds like this might be a winning approach for you too since so many of your political opinions emphasize brainless bravado.

Not so. She is an agent of change. And she offers herself up as the sacrificial lamb who is willing to broach subjects that NEED to be broached but that many others are too PC to do.

Most recently I was surprised that NO ONE seems to have picked up on the favor she did for America by broaching the subject of censorship.

She said the word 'faggot' in public.

NYC has passed a 'symbolic' ban on use of the 'N' word.

And while everyone is so caught up with the smaller, more boring aspects of the discussion, who among us has yet seen and pointed out the hypocrisy of our moving toward censorship only months after we told the Islamic world that freedom of speech does not guarantee we won't be offended?

She has given us the opportunity to discuss this and we have pussed away from it or we just weren't smart enough to realize and take that opportunity.

This single-handedly makes her unique? Comon Marden, this is an extremely lame argument. There are many people who say things that are risque that pro-censorship types are interested in censoring. This is nothing new, this has been going on for decades... What makes her so special?

Did you know that Martin Lawrence was banned from SNL for his monologue about feminine hygiene? If she is really into pushing the censorship issue, why doesn't she talk about her vagina, or talk about throwing baloney at strippers asses or something? We're at a time where we desperately need to elevate the political discourse in this country, not crap all over it like she does.

Marden, if you are really worried about the Western Superorganism becoming complacent and losing its grasp on power (or whatever you were saying), don't you find supporting Coulter's knuckle dragging Jerry Springer approach to politics counter-productive towards preventing this? Do you think that the answer to this involves a dumbing down of our political culture and discourse?

This single-handedly makes her unique? Comon Marden, this is an extremely lame argument. There are many people who say things that are risque that pro-censorship types are interested in censoring. This is nothing new, this has been going on for decades... What makes her so special?

Did you know that Martin Lawrence was banned from SNL for his monologue about feminine hygiene? If she is really into pushing the censorship issue, why doesn't she talk about her vagina, or talk about throwing baloney at strippers asses or something? We're at a time where we desperately need to elevate the political discourse in this country, not crap all over it like she does.
She is brilliant and bitingly funny. She fills a unique niche by dealing with the toughest subjects in a tough manner and prompting our discussion of the subject. You want to broach censorship you do it YOUR way, she does it her way.

She says what many are thinking.

She says those things brilliantly and boldly.

How is calling John Edwards a faggot brilliant and/or funny, and how does this prompt for any meaningful conversation at all?

I understand what you are saying though... Sometimes it takes a sledgehammer to stimulate any sort of thought process, but to me that is the problem that needs to be addressed, not accepted.
