The long-planned and long-awaited "official" biographical movie on Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs is finally underway, now in the hands of a different studio, director and star than was originally envisioned. Crews began setting up the former Jobs family home in Los Altos, California to shoot scenes in the famous garage where Apple was officially born on April 1, 1976. Originally developed by Sony, Universal Studios is now in charge of the production.

The script, by The Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin, is said to take place across three major scenes, all set before Jobs is about to give what would turn out to be life-changing keynotes: the first Mac, the first NeXT computer, and the first iPod. Flashbacks -- such as scenes shot in the Jobs garage -- are likely to play a prominent role in the film. The film is supposedly based on Walter Issacson's official biography of Jobs, and main contain material not used in the book in order to dramatize the story.

Thus far, the script has been the only element of consistency associated with the production. It's original director, David Fincher, left the project over a dispute about creative and marketing control, and various stars have been promoted and then recused from the lead role -- including Fincher's choice Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio. Currently attached to the film as Jobs is Michael Fassbender, and the current director is Danny Boyle, best known for the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. Seth Rogan is apparently set to play Steve Wozniak (the latter of whom is a consultant on the film), while others such as Natalie Portman have turned down various unmentioned parts. The original studio, Sony, put the project in turnaround - allowing Universal to take over the film.

Others thought to be in the film include Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley, Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbarg as Andy Hertzfeld, and Perla Haney-Jardine as Lisa, Jobs' first child.

principal, not principle...

I'm amazed they can shoot in that garage, it cannot be all that large and film lights and camera and crew and talent take up a fair amount of room... maybe they are shooting with a stripped-down crew and gear...

Came here to bitch about "principle/principal", but was beaten by climacs.

All I'm left with to complain about is this: "Boardwalk Empire's" not "Board Empire's".

One film about him was more than enough.

Larger scenes from bigger movies have been filmed in smaller enclosures. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

If the film is about what went on in that garage, then why isn't it about Woz?

Have no interest in seeing a flick about jobs, but do want to buy more products he inspired.
