Sounds like the workers didn't know what they were up against. Come on, the guy needs a lung transplant. I don't know all of the information, but so far I'm siding with the employees. The employers should have provided safety precautions and information. I don't think it is obvious to everyone that popcorn flavoring can destory one's lungs.

wtf? how is it in any way his fault?
basically, at best, he's looking at 20 years or less of life left becuase he took a job. It's not like this factory paid him a compensatory wage to justify the damage to his health.
Plus, he obviously had no idea that there were risks involved. He's a factory worker, not a scientist. If he's not told (which he wasn't) that his job is dangerous to his health, how would he know?
i say shoot anyone involved but him, he's going to suffer enough.

I mean, bar workers know secondary cigarette smoke is damaging their lungs; so, tough luck. But who the hell would think that popcorn butter vapour is doing damage?

2nd, you've never worked in a factory have you?
My dad worked at AM General for 30 years making Hummers and army trucks. All the time breathing in poison fumes. No rats or bugs could live in the place. When the inspectors would come in to do tests on the air quailty, they would relase other chemicals in the air to make the toxins sink to the floor. This would then not be detectable by the inspectors cause it wasnt at "people level" or whatever you call it.. Live with it is what they were expected to do. dangers of the work place is more than you might ever believe, or could endure I might imagine.
Sounds like they should've been given respirators to work in there like a painting area of a plant.
Hope all the people win big. Microwave popcorn sucks anyway!

And when I was in college, I commuted back and forth from Japan, LA, and Hawaii every day as a drug sm... painter. As a painter!! And I made so much money that I was able to pay for both 20K tuition and all the international travel! So I definitely didn't need to work in any factories!

Actually, it looks as though this guy may not have known the warnings, even when his supervisors did.
I look at this the same way I look at the Big Tobacco lawsuits. Anyone who started smoking before the Surgeon General's Warning was mandated by law to be put on cigarette packs and ads may have a right to complain. That was in 1964: forty years ago. Anyone who started smoking after that has no excuse to not have known what they were getting into.

According to the book 'Fast Food Nation', it's now the law in America that when safety inspectors visit a factory, they must first inpspect the accident log. If the log shows fewer than normal incidents they must leave immediately and not carry out an inspection.
Guess who updates the accident log. That's right - the very people being inspected !
