A friend of mine is trying to install 10.2 on a g4 that shipped with 10.1. 10.1 works fine, but when he boots from the 10.2 installer, he chooses the language and it just hangs. The spinning beach ball is still going, and he's let it go over night, but it still doesn't do anything. Any ideas?
Thanks

Clean install, archive & install, or just layin' it down all filthy over 10.1?
I recommend the former.

I had problems installing Mac OS 10.2 on a PowerMac G4 that had installed slower PC100 RAM. The problem was solved when I removed the PC100 RAM and used PC133 RAM.

He never gets the chance to choose clean install/archive etc, he just chooses language and then it hangs. This is 10.2.0, we're going to try 10.2.6 a little later when we get the disc.
Thanks

All right, now I'm out of ideas. Firmware's totally up to date. Has only Apple ram in it. Basically, the computer seems totally fine, until it starts off the installer cd for 10.2, at which point it just starts getting beyond slow. After five minutes of the 'installer loading' screen, I'm finally presented with a choice for language, click English, wait about a minute or two, and that it says scanning packages. I'm sure if I let the thing go for a week or two, it might finish, but I'm hoping there's an easier way. Anybody?

And is it clean, as in no marks fingerprints, etc.? I had the same problem, cleaned some smudges of a CD and installation went fine.
Too often, it can be the simple things and sometimes not.
