In pre-Panther days, there was an option in Mail prefs that would immediately delete the original messages from the remote server after downloading them to the desktop.

In the new Mail app, that option has disappeared, and Earthlink just wrote me saying my mail was exceeding my limit of hard disk space.

First time I ever got that message, and I suspect that it's because Mail isn't deleting messages on the remote end.

How can I get Mail to do that like before?

Thanks!

Preferences -> Accounts -> select account -> Advanced tab -> add check-mark to "Remove copy from server after..."

This doesn't always for for me either. I had it set to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message: Right Away" AND clicked the "Remove Now" button but found that mail was STILL left on the server (I checked this by logging in through a webmail interface).

It doesn't happen on all accounts.

Apple, please fix this. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm running into the same problem as well. No matter what settings I try, mail.app is NOT deleting mail from my POP account.

The only way I can remove mail from the server is to manually click on the "delete mail now" button under the account preferences page.
