Well, *mine* works, so *yours* must work, too.

what is disk arbitration??

I am having an issue where an ejected CD, dvd, or firewire hard disk remains in the finder window left-hand list after its been ejected. you have to drag it off (poof!) to get it out of there. cliking on it gives me some kind of error that the disk cant be found or something ...

will that help it to arbitrate??

Ya that's it. Anyway, it appears for 1 sec in the dock and then it is gone.

as with every update, first thing to do is run the repair permissions function in disk utility....

Sounds like a permissions problem. Repair 'em, Big Canada.

I suppose this is a good sign we won't see 10.3.3 for another 2-3 weeks...

My lord! I just did that and it seems every damn last permission on the hard drive was wrong! I really mean all of them, hundreds of thousands of files! This has never happened before and everything else seems to work fine.

It also fixed the problem.

Anyone else see this?

Does Security Update 2004-02-23 fix the problem with Mac OS 10's IPSec implementation? Is it now possible to join an IPsec VPN without having to use extra software like VPN Tracker?

Disk Arbitration is in charge of auto-mounting disks when you insert them. It's also used to keep a registry of what disks are inserted and generally comes into play when anything needs to do something with disks.

Not with this update.

When did you last install some e.g. third party software and do you typically run repair permissions afterwards? It has been my experience since day one of 10.0 that anything using a VISE installer will bugger up permissions on at least one file, if not more.

What's a sequitur? And what is the difference between a fucking and a non-fucking one?

And what do sequitur mating habits have to do with the thread topic?
