I want to try to set up my own web page, and thought I'd try one of the freeware HTML editors, but which one?

I have used Dreamweaver at work to update a site that had been professionally developed, but all I had to do was cut, paste and amend existing code, using the code view in DW, which wasn't too difficult. So I have some understanding of HTML. But I am a novice at developing from scratch.

A review of info on the web suggests to me that the 3 best options may be Amaya, Nvu and Taco. Any advice please on which I should try?

Thanks.

I would go with Taco, because it helps you learn the code. The more you know about the code (well, markup actually), the more you are in control and can create something you're happy with.

Auto Tag Completion / Selection and wrapping ala Dreamweaver and live preview are my only criterion.

Yet I don't seem to be able to find one.

Even BBEdit can't do it.

I was really hoping skEdit would have it with the next release, but nada. Tag and HyperText both don't.

Ideas?

Tag seems to have live preview as well as auto complete for me...

Thanks everyone for help. I am now using Taco and I like it, plus Nvu when I want to do WYSIWYG coding.
