I can't ****ing stand Dr. Phil, I'd rather watch Everybody Loves Raymond..and considering how much I despise that show it should accurately depict my disdain for Phil.

You could strap me in a theater Clockwork Orange-style with nothing but ELR and I'd probably force myself to have a heart-attack.

I voted him as only mildly unbearable, mostly because I have a relative that sounds a lot like him.

The only time he's good is when he's very, very honest with someone, like the girl who had a crush on the Good Charlotte guy and believed she had a "50/50 shot at marrying him."

But usually he's grating enough to make me leave the room.

Shall we say that love is a too strong a word?

Perhaps 'Everybody Tolerates Raymond', or 'Acceptable to waste time with under the right circumstances Raymond' might do.

But it could be worse - like the King of Queens, for example, which causes me to projectile vomit.

While my thoughts on oprah are ambivalent, that is not the case with "doctor" Phil
He's done more damage to people in the name of entertainment. He cares more for ratings then helping people, evidenced by the fact of who he trots out to help

I find it interesting people are a lot less ambivalent about Dr. Phil. It's too bad this is the internet and women don't exist here, cause I'd be curious if there is a bit of a gender divide here.

Nah, I honestly think Dr. Phil is by far not as controversial as Oprah.

At least he is a legit PhD, and not some self-appointed life-coach/guru/counselor/cult-leader/blabla...

Well, the poll results speak for themselves.

Hell, I put the word 'die' in the option and usually some retard will comment that "While I don't like Dr. Phil, I certainly don't want him to die", but not this time.
People really don't like him (here).

except that he let is license to practice psychiatry expire and so technically he's not supposed too. The show is considered "entertainment" which is why he's allowed to continue. He got in some dog do-do when he tried to counsel spears, partly because wasn't licensed anymore and mostly because he tried to cash in on the britney train wreck like so many others.

I agree with every word in this post.

Also, I find the poll lacking. There should be far more violent and gruesome options than just, “Dr. Phil must die”. Like, “Dr. Phil should have the lower half of his body ground into paste and be force-fed this paste on rye bread, and then have his organs removed with a dull spoon, and then chopped to pieces and be fed to cockroaches”. Or something like that.

That doesn't bother me.

It's more important to me that he has the proper background and training. Whether you agree with him or not, but at least he's not pulling his knowledge and experience out of thin air.

Once you become a TV psychologist, you have become a "self-appointed life-coach/guru/counselor/cult-leader/blabla..." and any legit-ness you might have ever had is gone.

I disagree. Past experience and knowledge don't magically disappear just because you're on TV.

Family Guy already did their own little reference.

BTW, I'm mildly surprised you weren't baited by the MacBreak Weekly reference.

It doesn't matter what their training was, they are no longer in the same field if they go on TV. They've switched from psychology to entertainment, and I'm sure Dr. Phil would agree, because he knows it would be unethical to claim he's practicing psychology when he's on TV. It's like a scientist who switches to a job acting as a scientist on a sitcom. Whether they actually have any training as a scientist is wholly irrelevant to their new job as a sitcom scientist.

Why ?

A trained scientist will be much more convincing in a scientist role because he knows what's real and what's not.
He would know the lingo, how to behave, do things that make sense rather than "pretending to be scientific".

You logic doesn't make sense at all.

What's real and what works on TV are completely different. I bet a college dropout soap actor would be seen by the public as a more convincing doctor than a real doctor.

But my point is that, even if Dr. Phil is good at faking it, as long as he's a teevee psychologist, he is faking it. You were saying he's not a self-appointed guru type. He's exactly that, because he's on TV. It's entertainment, not psychology, as I'm sure the disclaimers at the end of his TV show admit.

Took me four thorough looks to spot why it was the second one looked different to the first one. FOUR.

Actually, it was the teeth that gave it away. Hadn’t even noticed the tie, which only reaffirms the underlying truth in your rhetorical question.
