One thing is puzzling me, eep!.

The image looks very much better posted here compared with when I open it on my desktop. Crisper, sharper, I mean. How come? Any idea? Thanks already.

i suppose it depends on which apps you use, since they probably use different ways of opening the same file format or displaying colours. this is just guesswork though, maybe someone else could help us out?

Most likely, your desktop area is not the same size as the image, but larger, meaning it has to be scaled up, and looking crap in the process.
Or is it bitdepth, rather than distortion?
You're running at what bitdepth, and what resolution?

If you opened it in Photoshop you might jave to adjust the colour settings. But I think it's most likely what Cipher13 said, try zooming to 100% in Photoshop and compare.

or 50% or other precise multiples, 1e. 25%, 200% etc
it gets screwed when photoshop cannot discard or create whole pixels.
For instance at 66% photoshop has to throw away 1/3 of every pixel

The problem was that it wasn't showing at 100%.

Also the "precise multiples of" thing works too.

Thanks everyone who "chipped" (geddid?) in.

Yeah, tonton, I have only just installed it

Of course, I'm sure you've got speakable items turned on, right?

"Open Photoshop, HAL"... Photoshop launches.
"Open MacNN, HAL"... Explorer launches and takes you to the MacNN site.
"Open iTunes, HAL"... iTunes launches and plays the 2001 theme [edit]with full-screen graphics turned on, of course.[/edit]
"Open the pod bay doors, HAL"... "I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave".

You do know how to write Applescripts, right? You could have each item speak a response before launching the program, like "Yes, Dave".

The possibilites are endless!

In fact I think I might try this myself just to show off to my Windows friends.

Thanks.

alterEgo? Hmmm... that name sounds familiar...

You have to ask Dave Bowman there...

I actually posted the s/w once in the AI forums, under a different name of course, possibly alterEgo

Title free http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new...+Free&x=15&y=7

The great thing is, that, as the name, it is free. The guy who did it was very cool, as I had a slight problem at the beginning and had to e him.

Sorry man. I get a little crazy . . .

I know... I was kidding. Never liked that cover anyway, even with the cheezy interlaced plastic pseudo animation effect.
I think thats really cool. I love the smokebox with the eyes - the coolest CD cover ever.

Now Undertow... That's a record!
Sure. Its great. I dont really think its the best. Later TOOL is awesome.

The problem was you had "...dsk scaled.jpg" where you can't have a space. So what you have to put in is "%20" between "dsk and scaled.jpg.

Here is my current desktop, it is an older pic but it has been updated (the theme):

Sorry about the size... If anyone wants me to just put a link, then I wouldn't mind. From what I have seen, I think I have the messiest desktop. You can only see the mess on the sides from the picture, but trust me it is cluttered all over Actually a more cluttered desktop can be found here

not a mac pic (obviously), but still my desktop...

not as bland as most, but the thread at the [H]ardForum in Graphic Arts better shows at what some PC people got going on. Nice Stuffs indeed. Normally i would like to run at higher res, but since not evry one at my house can read the small writing i am forced to run 1024x728 with large fonts

MacMonster, geocities doesn't like it when you try and do that, use a url instead: http://www.geocities.com/emacmonster/beospr2.jpg

Nimisys, you do know that windows can change res on-the-fly, so all you'd have to do is switch it to the res you want when you sit down, then change it back when you're done?

yeah i know and so does the rest of my family... they are just too damn lazy to do it. it's not even hard just right click oin the icon in the tray and select the res. Lazy bastards, they are even to lazy yo bother with multiple users, so i got to keep everything bland for them otherwise they bitch and moan.
