Anybody have some stuff online to show off?

I've been going to put my portfolio online for almost a year now and have been too busy but I'd love to see what everybody else in these forums do.

Post a link! And when there's some behind my modest little Flash page, I'll do the same.

My Pixels
Not much up there at the moment. Mostly just desktop backgrounds and the like. I need to organize it a bit better, but I don't have a uniform theme for my site as of yet (the main page is flash and grey, the rest vary from white, black, blue, static, dynamic, framed, css, etc..).

Someday....

My stuff is online, but due to the fact that I am gainfully employed I never update MY site.

But I consider my employer's site MY site too...

OK, I'm basically an illustrator, just recently used some of my older drawings to make a small Flash movie ( Need a light?).
And my first Flash movie ever ( drop dead ) is not related to my regular work.
Will upload more animations and pics.
BTW, classy work Demonhood & davesimondotcom!

Hehe, I like the drop dead one. Very random. The poor sod never knew what hit him.

Wonder why nobody else is posting. The bums.

davesimon, I like the philanthropic professionals logo. A nice embrace as well as being a letter.

I really like the band in Gorillaz. Is it all digit or do you make the line-drawings by hand, scan and colour it in the computer ( my technique).

Sorry to disappoint, but the band in Gorillaz was drawn by Hewlett ( the guy that made Tank Girl), there is a number of Gorillaz desktops on the CD-ROM of the album - check the Read Me.

I've not been cartooning for a while, but I'll dust off the old Wacom and get some stuff done (I draw in a similar style to Hewlett anyway).

idjeff - very nice renderings. i certainly see the emphasis on transportation. what programs do you use for modeling/rendering/textures?

Dogma - i like the lasso-ish look of the wire behind the eyeball in your eyedesk background. why, however, is the iris of the eye so far off the eyeball?

Thanks Demonhood! To answer your question, I used a bunch of different techniques, using both the computer and traditional art methods. On the computer side of things I use Photoshop mostly to do the renderings. For the computer 3D modeling aspect, I use Autostudio 9.5.2 which is from Alias/Wavefront (expensive and the best for 3D modeling).

As for the rest, there's a lot of pen, marker, chalk, prisma and gouache on mediums that range from vincent vellum to canson. But when I discovered the power of Photoshop, I quickly 86'd the traditional methods of rendering. Basically the only analog things I use now are a ball point and Letrajet paper, then everything goes digital from there.

Wish me luck in getting a job as I'll be graduating very soon.

Demonhood:
In answer to your query about the eyeball;
Have you ever read a book called 'Grinny', it is a kids book by Roald Dhal or somebody about a robot Grandmother. Anyway, the kids start talking to her whilst looking directly 5 inches to her side. This made her crazy.
Everyone knows the classic 'wide-eyed pupil looking directly at them trick' however I believe that a huge disimbodied eye looking NOT directly at them gives a greater sense of unease - as if, oh no, what's that behind you!
Anyway, it's to give an impression of the eyeball being 'spherical', i.e does anyone know how difficult it would be to make an eyeball stay in the same place, I'm sure that sucker would roll about a bit.

I thank you

(I realise I could've done this in Lightwave with brilliant effect, but it was just another Photoshop experiment that for once didn't go horribly wrong - I'm constantly trying to push myself and Photoshop so that I will never have to use another program or external device again. All my work has never been natural media. No photos, no scans, nothing - except the stuff I didn't originally draw, ho hum.)

I was shooting for an editorial cartooning gig at the local paper - (Fort Worth Star Telegram) and sent them a half dozen OpEd pieces.

They said they liked the stuff but were "in a budget crunch" I thought that was a pretty lame rejection, but then they laid off a couple of dozen staffers.

Anyway the stuff I did is online at www.holmesontherange.com/cartoons

I still have to fill the image galleries.

What do you think

Hey chrisford, here's a little feedback

Through BabylonDesign I have been producing effective, profit-prducing internet sites since 1994. Having trained in layout

Just thought I'd point out your typo since the site reads like a resume.

You know, I like how clean the Babylon site is. Its almost fresh in these days of the popular deconstructive graphics. The site is straight forward and easy to navigate.

idjeff -

i think i owe you a pint!

thanks for taking the time to let me know about that - and i appreciate your comments!

i'll make the correction - shamefaced! - today.

thanks again!

chrisford

(edit) idjeff - i've just looked at your images - that is a real skill. i've always been jealous (!) of that ability to produce illustration that is, by requirement, precise but also maintains that fluidity...

jealous is definitely the word!

Nice clean site Aykew. I like the contained site within the pattern.

You might wanna add a "click to close" or a little js to close when someone clicks on the image (for the pop-up windows, of course).

I like the mixing of 3D and photoshopping/illustration.

Well thanks again chrisford! If your talking about the computer generated 3d models, the program is Autostudio 9.5 from Alias/Wavefront. The program kicks tremendous ass but costs an arm and a leg. My school has a few SGI Octanes and Autostudio so I don't need to pay for it at least.

The other stuff is either ball point or photoshop renderings, except the "Artcenter/Celica" link in which a few of the images there I used traditional methods of rendering (chalk, marker, gouche, prisma, airbrush, etc). Anyway, thanks again for the compliments.

Yippee!
Found an old backup CD-RW down the back of my bookcase. It has plenty enough old stuff to stick on my gallery to get it started.
A few tweaks here and there and it should be good to go.

In case you're wondering what i'm talking about, see my previous post near the top. I lost all my previous portfolio through a not so happy expierience with Dreamweaver.

Should be a starter 'folio up by tomorrow night.

e r i k, your site is very nice, but since I'm only on dialup, it took me forever just to load the front page. Plus from a design point of view it is great, but functionally I cannot tell who made what and some thumbs blend in to each other.

I had the same problem and now keep the files as small as possible per page, I know the gallery of mine ain't exactly fast, but I'm going to keep the thumbnail count to ten, and add other pages as I add more stuff.

Otherwise, the desktops that I saw were very impressive.

Keep up the good...
