I'm bored out of my mind. I have tomorrow off and I'm tired of choosing my own entertainment. In the past couple weeks I've consumed:
- All of Rick and Morty, twice
- All of Half Life 2
- 20-odd hours of Rust
- Leon: The Professional
- Nikita
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Blazing Saddles
- The Silence of the Lambs
- Ender's Game
- The Life of Brian
- American History X
- Children of Men
- John Dies at the End
- Cabin in the Woods
- Community
, season 5
- A bunch of Bob's Burgers
- Most of season 2 of The Wire
- All of YouTube
- Wrote an article for publication in a trade journal
- Climbed a mountain

...I think that's it. I'm tired of choosing. Pick something for me.

All of these are really heavy slices, but each is also brilliant.

The Source Code is a very good time.

It's also an excellent use of low budget.

Sorry I keep coming up with heavy suggestions, but Man Facing Southeast is probably one of the best movies ever made.

Iron Sky for some completely zany, awesome entertainment. Nazis from the moon. Seriously. That's the premise. Sarah Palin is president. It's a partially Finnish production.

What more do you need to know?

Okay... some lighter suggestions.

I Come In Peace and The Hidden. Both scifi cop buddy movies. The first is a comedy, the second isn't, but has lots of comic scenes.

In I Come In Peace, one of the cop buddies is Brian Benben from Dream On. If you've ever seen that show, you'll know he's the perfect actor to play a tightass, by-the-book, federal agent. His "lone wolf" cop buddy is Dolph Lundgren. Don't let that put you off. He does an improbably good job at it.

With The Hidden, it's Kyle McLaughlin who plays the federal agent. There's no question Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks was cribbed from this movie.

I Come In Peace may not suit all tastes, but The Hidden is a high point for 80's, B-Grade, scifi action movies.

More cop type movies.

If you haven't seen Midnight Run, you should. Brilliant anti-chemistry with DeNero and Grodin.

I know Steven Segal is a douchebag, but Above The Law is actually one of the best kung-fu cop movies.

Lastly... Cop, with James Woods. This is, IMO, the best cop movie evar.

Swimming With Sharks and Living in Oblivion are two good movies about making movies. In Sharks, Kevin Spacey really eats up the scenery, and every second is delightful. It's a comedy, but kind of a bummer. All the comedy is about abuse. Living in Oblivion is straight comedy. I personally can't watch it anymore because it hits a little to close to home for someone who's worked on disaster low-budget movies. For civilians, it's fine. Also has Peter Dinklage in a (ahem) small role, and unsurprisingly he steals the ****ing show.

Edit: Oblivion also nets you a naked Catherine Keener and a lead actor who is based on Brad Pitt. It's not a flattering portrayal.

I've been on a massive film noir and old black-and-white kick lately - I'm working my way through the great movies of the 40s and 50s. Double Indemnity is arguably one of the greatest film noir movies and Rififi one of the greatest heist movies ever. If you don't love them I'll be shocked, disappointed, saddened, and insinuate that it's not them, it's you.

(My pick for this weekend was Night of the Hunter. Always pops up as one of the great 50s thrillers. Did not like it at all. Just really has not aged well IMO. Colour me shocked, disappointed and saddened, but with good reason. So then I went to see The Grand Budapest Hotel and that more than made up for it. )

Also, highly recommend season 1 of The Americans. One of the best TV shows from last year. Premise: undercover KGB agents live as seemingly normal American family in Washington in early 1980s. Season 2 is now a few episodes in and starting to ramp up.

When boredom time is over and you've recovered your sanity from the nonstop movies, give us some ratings. Which movies fit your preferences, and which members recommended more stinkers.

I'm not worried. How about you guys?

They actually called me in yesterday so I didn't get to marathon anything. Also, I ignored everyone and watched Robocop.

Worst thread outcome ever.

May I suggest short yet thought provoking film: La Jetée

La jetée (1962) - IMDb

Ooh. If you're a Sci-Fi fan, the War against the Chtorr series by David Gerrold. HIGHLY recommend, even if the fifth book in the series is like a decade and a half late.

I haven't seen that in a long time, if ever, so I wouldn't be surprised. We just recently rewatched the original, which is less mad-cap than I recall later pink panther being. Also, more grownup naughty humor.

However, two gorillas driving convertibles, come on! priceless.

I read Brave New World on the iPad since it's available online. I bought Doug Demuro's book via Amazon and am reading it via the Kindle iPad app.

But historically I've always gone for printed reading material so I have something to do during takeoff and landing. With the new regulations allowing me to use my iPad the whole flight, this may not be a thing anymore.

It really seems to be this sad situation that since it didn't have "Pink Panther" in the title, it's been doomed to obsucurity.

The only completely different movie/sequel name combo I can remember is Romancing the Stone / Jewel of the Nile, but that's from the 80s. There's probably way more.
