I have seen this in 2 places.

1. The Mastercard advertisement with the lady, doggy and tornado.
2. On NBC's Friends tonight, when Chandler was looking for a new job for Monica.

Why can't it be like 24 or 6'Under?

I saw a similar thing on CSI tonight. I had seen it earlier in the show, and later just had to blurt out, "Look! A PowerBook... but, the apple logo's covered... man alive, I can't believe I noticed that..."

I also noticed the new Gateway ad. I couldn't believe it, they're using the exact same power button as Apple does - didn't Apple sort of pioneer that power button logo? I saw it on an ad for a Mac User Group around here, recently, and instantly identified, "Hey, alright, Apple."

Im glad they dont show the symbol. the laptop is clearly an Apple laptop. but the fact that apple dosent 'sell out' to these 2-bit companies makes Apple more appealing.

I think they used a powerbook in a processor commercial once.

My guess is that they approached Apple for some product placement money, and Apple declined the opprtunity, but the props dept only had a TiPB so had to use it anyway.

My personal favourite is where you see a mac from the back, but when you see the screen it is a PC with a start button and all, and or vice versa, you see a beige POS PC but when you see the front it has a mac desktop.

I saw it used on Trading Spaces, but covered on While You Were Out. Talk about inconsistencies on the same network.

For the record, Apple has never paid money for product placement. Many folks in the creative community use Macs and know how much cooler they look, so they put them in there shows. But they have to pay for them.

Drew Carry had a G4 Cube and instead of showing the apple on the front the converted it to a gray circle but he has also had the original ibook, and Mimi has had a bunch of iMacs of various falvors, the imac and ibook are hard to hide that its and apple, but the Ti Book is just gray and sleak so it really easy because is so simple

Not on tv, but they certainly have in movies (eg the "Mission Impossible" deal).

It was my understanding that quid-pro-quo product placement was illegal in television shows, but I've done some snooping online and not only can I not find any info confirming that, it looks like paid product placement in tv shows is the wave of the future. Anyone have any solid info on this?

They also currently cover the Apple logo on the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. It's covered by a generic looking "Police" shield decal.

There's no mistaking it though.

On the new CSI: Miami, they use G4 iMacs. There's no hiding those babies!

The Power icon is universal. Whether or not Apple was the first to use it is irrelevant now. It's been used in a billion places.

Gateway's new look is a last ditch effort to stay alive. They will die soon. Good riddance!

This happens with almost all brand-name products on TV. They do it to avoid infringing the trademark.

In Office Space, a progress bar will be Mac OS, but the minute the program is closed the Desktop is a Windows Desktop. Pay close attention to this.

Office Space uses I think 4 OSes. DOS, Windows, OS 7 (I think it's 7) and their own custom "movie OS"

FWIW, I've spotted several Macs on "Just Shoot Me" over the last couple of years ... all with the Apple logo covered. Almost every recent episode has included a TiBook with two or three Post-It notes plastered over the Apple logo.

Off the top of my head, there's a few different powerbooks in Sex in the City, a whole range from beige to cube in The Royal Tenenbaums and a Powermac & Cinema Display in Vanilla Sky.

They're also used by John Lewis (UK department store), Ikea and Habitat showrooms.

You aren't paying attention to the movie carefully. They mixed all OS in one on purpose (for sarcasm purpose)

I thought so, I just wasn't sure.

And about why they cover the Apple logos on TV sometimes: I think someone might have drawn penises on them.

Old Ikea brochures(UK) used to be full of Macs. This years has nothing but Hewlett Packard (I think its HP, you know those PCs with extra bits of coloured plastic stuck to them?) boo.

The guy in Independence Day saved the world with a PowerBook, and Apple made commercials about it.

Oh, and they use TiBooks on The West Wing all the time but instead of putting a tacky sticker on top of the Apple logo they just cleverly block it with a stack of books.

I also saw a couple of Ti's in the Movie Mr Deeds. You can tell that it is the Ti. even without the symbol
