Anyone want to help me tamper with Safari's inner files?

So I've taken it upon myself to make Safari's tabs as un-stupid as they can be given the circumstances. First step is to separate the close/min/max buttons from the first tab. I've halfway done it:


Those bottom two don't have an image as Safari stands now. Where do I go (PLISTS? NIBs?) to add in a provision for inactive tabs in active and inactive windows? Basically what needs to happen is Safari needs to know to pull different images for these two states. As of right now there is no provision for it. Can anyone help?
