Me likey very much a lot.

Now for some feedback -

Line spacing is a bit big, and the text sizes could be one step smaller (I've switched to small, but it could go smaller again, default size is what I would call large.

The user panel on the left side of a post is a bit wide, unless there is a funny line in the location, most of the users have the right hand side of this box empty.

I like sigs on the right, somehow, they look nicer over there.

Jury is out on the new post marker icons and green dots. They look nice, but are harder to understand. The old system of white or yellow envelopes, with red dots for where you have posted, was much easier to understand, and see the difference between them.

Vista did come out first, but only just!

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

We need new, glossy smilies to go with this new, glossy theme. Other than that, looks great.

Crowd is lovin' it! Well if I'm the crowd anyway, I'm lovin' it. Great work as always! I feel as if my addiction has been re-upped for another 130 years. (Don't ask what that means, simply that I like the new look).

alternating colors in the lists, just a subtle shift would be good to differentiate between posts and threads

overall just too new and shiny for me to get used to just yet

needs time to sink in...

Don't worry, we'll have another 7-8 years to adjust to this theme.

I *love* the new thing. The only thing I'm missing is the icons next to new posts, so you know which ones you haven't read yet. With the new theme we see threads with new posts, but once we go in those threads there's no indication of which posts are actually new. That sucks, especially for really long threads.

Also, could we get a link from the forum to take us directly to new unread posts? Every other forum I use has this feature - most get there by clicking on the thread icon.

I think it has something to do with the forum software not being very friendly.

There should be a rank for a postcount of 1-10 called "Potential Spammer" and all links they post should be disabled.

Just a thought.

i also would like to say hiding the post count SUCKS BALLS again.

also, i liked the old rating stars for people, as you could help distinguish more about who was talking (eg, if it was a high post count guy like dakar, etc)
now, the only things you can help distinguish between are sig and name, which means looking around.

I like the overall design, except for two things that have already been mentioned
-User info area is too wide. I have a 20" iMac so I'm fine, but I feel for those still on a small screen
-I can't staaaaand the sigs on the right. Can this be made into an option? Due to my aforementioned widescreen, I have to move all the way across the page to see who's who. I know people better by their sigs than their names, so I'm really missing out. More options ARE better.

The forum software only allows for so much customization. I don't think the ability for users to change sig alignment is possible. Though I may be wrong, effgee will know for sure.

Try dropping your browser cache.

Again, the actually post count number is not that important.

There is still a star rating in place, just like the old one except more have been added. Which means you can still tell if the person is a high poster.

fabulous. I like the sigs on the right, I like the cleaner look.

I heard rumors of new smilies... I think the testers couldn't decide which they liked best, new or old. Perhaps a poll is in order... mmm... poll....

Um, is there somewhere in the usercp where I can change my settings so I can view the forum using the old theme?

( Unfortunately my combination of large monitor and big resolution make the new version of the forum hard going on worn out eyes )

IE6 at work doesn't have a problem. However, Camino at home does have that problem.

There was talk of adopting the AI Forum smilies (if given the permission), but there wasn't overwhelming responses to make the switch. So for now at least, they are staying the same.

Oh, here are some of the AI Forum smilies in caes you were wondering...

I find them to be a little fuzzy myself.

effgee had a bunch (like a set of 100) to replace our current ones, but we weren't sure if people would riot. so we left things alone. we can always revisit this down the road.

everyone will get used to the sigs on the right (and come to love it).

you'll grow accustomed to the green dots instead of the red ones. i also like how no one noticed that we completely did away with the concept of a "hot thread."

and no, we can't make it so that sig alignment varies based on whether it is text or an image. sorry.

There is nothing after 15000. The Zimphire account has 30k+ posts and has the clinically insane stars.

I say demonhood add the 30k posts to this account and give me....

I did a few initial mock-ups but I found I couldn't improve. As I've mentioned before working on that small a scale is a skill, and I don't possess it.

Weird. Safari has the same problem. I'll give IE7 a try in parallels, but it seems odd to me that there are features at MacNN only available on IE...

Mods, please update the "Forum Links" collapsable menu to reflect the pull-down menu list and the re-org of forum sections.

Remember, those links aren't dymanic, so it manually has to be done each time a forum section is changed.
