Apple has started supplying "select partners" with a pre-release version of OS X 10.8.5, sources for
AppleInsider say. The build is listed as 12F35, and includes what appear to be final release notes. Apple for instance
states that the update "fixes an issue that may prevent Mail from displaying messages," and "resolves an issue that may prevent a screen saver from starting automatically." The code also improves Xsan reliability and AFP file transfers over 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
The v10.8.5 update has been in development for several months, and has already seen several beta releases for developers. Today's news may indicate that the code is essentially finished and on the verge of being pushed to the public. It will likely be the last major update for Mountain Lion, since Apple needs to shift its focus to Mavericks, which should ship in September or October.
