I'm sure anyone who can help me knows what it looks like when a program asks for your keychain password, but for those who don't, screenshot.

I believe I have it set to automatically unlock my keychain so I don't have to type it in every time I start a program that requires it.

It started occurring when I reset my password. I didn't change it from System Preferences, I reset it with the Mac OS X Install Disc.

Any idea why its still asking me for my keychain password?

Easy enough to check and fix. Open Keychain Access in the Utilities folder, go to the Edit menu, and select "Change settings for keychain."

Bringing this back up as the problem is not solved...

Keychain access shows my keychains as being un-locked and they should stay that way, yet after restarts Mail, Safari, etc... (whichever opens first) require me to enter my Keychain password.

Try changing your password. When you change the password from outside your account, the keychain password can get out of sync somehow and then that starts happening. I've seen it on a couple of other systems before.

No luck.

I changed my password, restarted. Still was asked for my password.

Checked Keychain Access, noticed it was locked, probably when I changed it. Unlocked it and restarted again. Still asking for it. Definitely unlocked now.

Don't know why I didn't think of that...

I did a verify and it said I should repair. The repair was successful. I'll find out next restart if it worked. Thanks again.

Did you modify your copy of Mail in any way?

i.e. edit a plist file or an icon or something in the application bundle?

If the answer is yes, then you've run into the application signature issue. All of Apple's applications are signed. When you edit the application bundle in any way, even to change a setting in a plist file in the bundle, the signature breaks.

An application with a broken signature is not trusted by the system to access the keychain without your permission. This is a security feature.

Are you running any haxies or input manager plugins? The signature issue can show up with haxies, too. The signatures are checked against running applications too.

If so, disable them and see if the problem goes away.

As a last resort, try creating another user and see if the keychain problem exists for them. If not, something's probably wrong with your personal keychain that Keychain First Aid couldn't fix.

I'm not running anything haxies/input manager/replaced icon/edited p-list related, as far as I know.

I'll try the new account when I can, and thanks for your continued help.
