I don't think it's the abstinence message that makes it not feminist — it's everything else. The overall message seems to be, "Your life should be all about your man. It doesn't matter if he physically threatens you — you should stick it out."

That doesn't make sense, Edward (the vampire) never physically threatens Bella. I really see it more like an adventurous, almost impossible romance. It is a very "Fairy Tale" romance in some way, that is why so many people liked it I guess.

I believe this is an english thread. No, I wouldn't like to sparkle under the sun or hiss a like 5-year-old.
Although he is one of the reasons I read the books -- Bella herself is just banal.

Interesting article and ensuing debate (certainly much more enlightening than these five pages). Could Twilight actually constitute a social issue?
