This is not an April fools thread. Today my cat Cassidy died of rapid growing liver and kidney cancer. My parents took him into the vet this morning because he had been loosing weight quickly over the last week and they did some blood work and an ultrasound and found two large masses. One in his kidneys and one in his liver.

My family has had Cassidy since he was 6 months old. He was 11, almost 12 years old.

I was not able to say goodbye to him because I'm here at school and my family is in california, a 4-5 hour plane ride away.

My memories and pictures of him are all that I will have, my parents are getting rid of all his toys and his litter box, which is okay, they were his, and only his to use.

Here is a picture of him:

Cassidy, I will always love you, and will miss you.

get your picture printed and frame it, before you lose it in a hard drive crash or something. I have pet photos right up alongside family photos. They are part of the family, why not?

My sympathies. We lost our oldest cat just before Christmas 2004 to bladder cancer. It's hard, but you can get through this.

And as Samurai Jack says, get those pictures printed! We have three of our cats' pictures on top of the china cabinet; a place of honor. And we still miss them...

You should save some of his toys to remember him by.

it's sad to see a good looking cat like that go.

Sympathies.

My cat, Bart, died back in 2003, at the age of 11. He had been my best pal since I got him when I was around 8 years old. He slept in bed with me against my stomach almost every night his entire life. That fat, furry little bugger and I had quite a bond.

When he died, I had him cremated and put in a nice little wooden urn box with a customized plaque.

I also kept his favorite toy, a little leather mouse that I would store in a can of cat nip every few days so that the smell would keep him crazy no matter how long he played with it. The mouse was as old as he was.

Very cute cat. I know how hard it is to lose a pet.

Be happy knowing you gave him a great home which many cats do not have.

Yeah, I know how it feels. It sucks.

We have a 17 year old cat, that's just as annoying as it was when it was 7 months old. We also have a few more older cats who are gonna be on there way out.

Cute kitty though.

I was not able to see the Cassidy picture until now… This is very sad… how do you tell to a pet you love that he is going to die… I know how hard is, I have lost several pets, dogs, cats and even a nice duck…

I wish you and your family the best, and maybe with a little lucky you can find another wonderful pet that is going to help you all to recover from such a lost.

Look, Hans Christian Andersen was born the same day your lovely cat died… I am sure the poet is writing some nice tale there in the Heaven in memory of Cassidy.

It's amazing how difficult it is to lose a friend - even an animal one.

We lost our Darby kitty five years ago, and still miss her. But she was in pain, so she is somewhere better now.

My sympathies on your loss. Cassidy was a beautiful cat.

I'm tempted to ask,

Vy a duck?
But out of respect for Cassidy's memory, I'll behave.

I called up my folks right after I read your post and asked them to keep one for me. They said they would.

I will be getting all the pictures of him that I have and put them on a cdr and take them to the local picture place and have them print them, and will frame my favourite couple and give the rest to my parents to decide.

Thank you all for your comments so far. they all mean so much to me
ps:
angelmb: very interesting fact, I shall pass that along to my parents.
