My parents bought an Apple Mac mini G4 back in April of 2005. It had Panther installed. I got the Tiger Upgrade CD for $10.

However, they don't use it that much and it's been more of a play machine for me (or it sits boxed up). Well, I had Ubuntu installed onto it, but I wanted to go back to OS 10.4

Since the OS 10.4 CD is an Upgrade, it wanted 10.3 installed on the drive. Well, I install 10.3, and go to install 10.4.

However, it still can't find "10.3 during the install".

Any ideas?

You may have to boot into 10.3 before it will register as valid. For example, no users have been defined before you boot into a fresh install.

You could also upgrade 10.3 to 10.3.9 before trying again.

I have booted into OS X 10.3 already, and a user has been created.

I will upgrade to 10.3.9 and then try the upgrade.

I upgraded from 10.3.7 to 10.3.9, and then rebooted to the CD and it worked.

It was able to find an install and I am able to install now.

Thanks for that - I never would have thought of it.
