OK guys, I need your help.

Lately, I've taken to hitting the treadmill for a couple of hours a day. Of course, since this is more boring than an evening talking about turnips with a Bill Gates fan, I've been watching comedy while I've been at it.

So far, I've been watching That 70s Show. Good quality comedy with the bonus of a variety of hot chicks in it. Me like. But I'm running out - only got another week's worth.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help me find some good US comedy. Hot chicks a plus point (obviously).

Thanks chaps.

Three of the best, but I'll add Curb Your Enthusiasm and 30 Rock.

I was an unlikely fan of this show. Seen 'em all, multiple times, even went to a taping (the last two seasons are terrible, though).

Next up was the U.S. verison of The Office. Really good. The wife is partial to 30 Rock as well.

Not a comedy, but the (now canceled, wtf?) HBO series Carnivale is excellent.

I'm probably more of a fan of British comedy (because I'm British), but The Big Bang Theory is absolutely hilarious. I love that show. Curb Your Enthusiasm Is also genius (It's like the American Alan Partridge) and Arrested Development has a lot of laughs too.

House is also really funny. Even though it's technically drama, the lines are brilliant and it's full of comedy.

Nobody said Friends??

Anyway, I'm with badidea, why US only?

Little Britain
Father Ted
Spaced
The Office
Extras
The Mighty Boosh
Green Wing
Alan Partridge
Saxondale
Peep Show
Gavin & Stacey

thats for starters.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

NewsRadio, my all-time favorite sitcom. Phil Hartman + Dave Foley + Stephen Root = genius!

Freaks and Geeks is my second favorite.

I'm with Laminar and BigBadWolf. In my own preferred order:

1. Arrested Development
2. The Office
3. 30 Rock
4. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Seriously, the first three are excellent writing. The fourth is not quite of the same caliber, but is pretty damn funny nonetheless.

How I Met Your Mother - Neil Patrick Harris is hilarious in this.
Newsradio - where oh where did TV like this go?
Scrubs - often hilarious, rarely weak. Many funny characters.
Boston Legal - Denny Crane. A riot, though it sometimes wants to beat a point into its viewer. Denny Crane.
Psych - simultaneously lame and hilarious.
Rules of Engagement - if you can get past David Spade, Patrick Warburton is worth it.
The Simpsons - many good years. the earlier, the better.

IMO, The Office and Arrested Development are only funny if you are humor or intelligence impaired. I just stare at them and say "people really think that was funny?". They're physically painful to watch.

Well, this season wasn't the best.

I love this stupid show, but I'm a sucker for a mystery. Also, I think the "Ebony and Ivory" commercial is one of my all-time favorites.

Rules of Engagement - if you can get past David Spade, Patrick Warburton is worth it.
But he's also in NewsRadio and Seinfeld, so why bother?

He's the main character in this one, so you get more of it. Seinfeld is full of intentionally annoying characters, and I'm not a fan of that.

I've only ever seen about five minutes of the UK Office, but found it a bit pointless. Not seen the US one.

Arrested Development? Saw one ep a while back and found it a bit too smug and up itself. I suspect it's for the Family Guy crowd who've grown out of cartoons. And I'm with Cartman on Family Guy.

I guess I'm just boringly mainstream when it comes to comedy.

I watch:

The Office (US)
Seinfeld (I go to sleep to it almost every night)
CSI (I know, not a comedy)
Arrested Development
My Name is Earl (cheesy, but sometimes enjoyable)
Futurama (got in on it late)
Venture Bros. (only got in on it to see what the fuss was, and liked it a lot)

Not a fan of Scrubs though. Maybe it's an acquired taste.

OK, thanks guys. Much appreciated.

From recommendations here, I'm gonna go for:

Scrubs (I've already seen season 1. Liked it, but just forgot about the rest).
Curb Your Enthusiasm.
30 Rock.
Two and a Half Men.
Seinfeld.

Once those are done, I'll try some of the others recommended. Might even revisit Roseanne, Cheers, Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, Malcolm in Middle, Friends, Frasier, etc.. Yes, I'm a saddo mainstream fanboy.

I'm already up to date (and got 'em all on DVD) on:

Little Britain.
Father Ted.
Alan Partridge.
Saxondale.
Earl.
How I Met Your Mother.
CSI (all of 'em).

Righty O. Time to head back and put my nose to the grindstone (i.e. sit in a studio 12 hours a day and attempt to create something resembling popular music). See ya all next year.

Arrested Development is much closer to Scrubs than to Family Guy. It's a bit dry, there are a lot of self-referencing jokes, and the writing is very quick and clever. I'll see an episode for the third time and catch an obscure reference that I'd missed before.

I also do TV on the treadmill, but I do series-type shows to keep me coming back. I've watched all episodes of Lost and several seasons of 24 on the treadmill. Highly recommended for that purpose.

I agree that the UK Office is like that; I don't actually care for the "increasingly embarrassing or outlandish or outrageous" comedy approach. But the US Office is more screwball than dreadful.

I definitely recommend Entourage. This is not exactly comedy, but there are plenty of hot girls and it has that sunny California vibe which never fails to lift my mood during those miserable British winters.

Another worth a watch is Weeds. Though not a lead in the show, Kevin Nealon is sometimes hysterical to watch. I enjoy him much more on this show than on SNL.

I'll add Corner Gas. It's a mixture of dry, sarcastic, and off-beat humour.

Another big thumbs up for Weeds. One of the most hilarious, off-kilter shows on TV. Fair warning, though, that it turns into a bit more of a drama as the series progresses. One of my favourite shows.

The Office and Scrubs are superb. I like Scrubs because it's funny but retains it's seriousness at the same time. And The Office is just so damn funny.
