this is pretty cool, for those who don't know about it:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
if you've bought your mac in the last 90 days and it didn't come with OSX, then just go to this site and sign up and you'll have it sent to you for free. hooray!
BUT, i talked to a cool dude at 1-800-MY-APPLE today, and any non-OSX computers on the spec sheet provided, as long as purchased in the last 90 days, will be covered with the 10.1 version of this deal.
I don't know if this will work in an upgrade from 10.0.x to 10.1, but it's worth checking out.
this should cover a lot of you complainers out there :c)

That Up To Date promotion (the in-the-last-90-days one) was introduced to cover their butts for any macs that were in stock (a resellers warehouse) that did NOT have OS X bundled with it, when Steve Jobs made the announcement that starting 'today' all Macs would ship with X.

Unfortunately, there is NO news of any other Up to Date promo. I have a DP 533 that shipped with 9.1, and can't get an upgrade path to X yet. In all my time, I've never actually heard of anyone using their "os coupons" to get an Upgrade to a new OS. I really REALLY want to clip one and get X.I for free!

perhaps if enough people call something will change.

enjoy!

I did. I picked up a closeout Blue Dalmatian iMac last month. It had 9.1 (it had probably been sitting on the shelf at CompUSA since January ), so I dutifully downloaded the up-to-date form and sent it in with my OS coupon. Exactly a week later I got a nice OS X CD from Apple. I have to think that if I had waited until now, I'd have gotten 10.1. The offer was good on computers purchased from May 21 to August 21 and you had 90 days to send in the coupon.
