Perhaps this has been done, but I haven't seen it.

Why did you pick your particular forum name? Is it a nickname? Does it have meaning? Is it pronouncable? Do you use the same name everywhere else? Post here if you wish to give people insight to your craziness.

Mine is a cheat code for Jedi Knight (Dark Forces II) for the ability to defy gravity (fly). It comes from the movie Brazil by Director Terry Giliam and is actually a misspelling of the code to take the elevator to the top in the buildiing (the JK coders misspelled it and I used their misspelling).

It is actually an abbreviation for "Here I am, J.H." if you speak with an accent. ('ere I am, J.H.). Most people cannot pronounce it when read. I'm not sure if many recognize it.

I chose it because I needed something fairly unique and basically had no other ideas at the time. I never had a nickname growing up which I guess is a good thing.

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

Remember when I guessed your name a while back?

Anyway, my name is what it is because before I was home on pregnancy leave I was a content editor for a large (online) news organization/site.

Not very complicated!

(By the way, they just informed me that they've decided to move from the Apple platform to IBM -- ugh -- in my absence and have ordered many new ThinkPads.)

Y'know, it's really odd, but that actually never occurred to me until now.

I've actually known of the anagram for longer than I've lived here.

I used to think it rather appropriate for somebody with high-flying ideas prostituting himself with menial jobs to pay the rent; but that feeling has been slowly subsiding and adapting to real life - and vice versa.

Nice to see that it works on more levels, though.

I was big into encryption at one point, hence "Cipher". Yes, it was before the freakin' Matrix.

13 is my favourite number, and also has a cryptographic relevance to me.

This is one of the only places where I use this name.

It's an old childhood nickname. When my little brother and I were just little guys, he couldn't say my name (Frankie), so he called me Kee. That eventually grew into Keekee, and then Keekeeree. Although he quit calling me Keekee many years ago, my mom still calls me Ree on fairly regularly.

I picked it because it was unique and have been using it since I first came online back in 1996 or so.

My past training as a biologist made me pick this name. It's actually a mis-spelling (really, a secondary older spelling) of the generic name of a species that I happen to like. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to find out which species of Pimephales I personify.

I couldn't remember my regular password when I was bored at work one day and needed a login. You'd be surprised at how many names I tried to get that were supposedly taken before just settling on this one. This one was based on a mod (Nate) over at another form who would always use "Go Go Photoshop Powars!" when 'shopping up another member's photos. Fun times, now that forum's dead.

I see, a Google Images user you are. But he true roots of the nick lie in an ancient German video game called "Schleichfahrt" (which thoroughly rocked). The game is set in an post-apocalyptic future where humankind is forced to live underwater because of radiation, creating an almighty corporation in the process which provides energy, transportation and oxygen. The abbreviation was "EnTrOx Corporation". Well, back in the day I also played a lot of QuakeWorld and was in need of a fake nick once. As you can see, it stuck and I have been using it for the last 7 years (at least on fora and IRC, I use my real name otherwise).

Well, mine came in a sickening moment of self-promotion...

I've also registered "webdav" which I use on another forum *cough* *bbq* *cough* - but I never use that one because I be a post count whore!

"webdav" is sort of a joke made at work one day about the protocol - and the fact that I do web design and my name is dave made it stick.

AFAIK, 'The Placid Casual' originates from some songs by the Super Furry Animals...

It is also the name of their record company I think.

I just like it... Well, it is better than my lastname; Marc2211...

Well, you already re-registered as "Superchic[k]en" from "Superchic[k]" so people wouldn't think you were a girl, what's keeping you from re-registering as "Salty"?

Post-count vanity?

'Cuz I'm sure anybody familiar with you would recognize you within two posts, and you could leave a hint in your sig, if it's that important.

A decade or so ago, friend and I who share the same opinion of our favorite band were sitting around discussing them. Our favorite band is "the Church" and the lead singer is Steve Kilbey. We were joking around about how we could use "killbee" as a username for a board he had started. Well, someone else had already registered "killbee", so I registered as "Kilbey". I have been using it ever since. It seems like everything else I ever tried to use was already taken, but "Kilbey" never was.

I know, VERY unoriginal.
