Nice! What did that do to your local taxes? What kind of hardware did they use?

Wireless here...don't know what I'd do without it! Being able to take the Powerbook into the bathroom when I gotta take a long one, is a lot better than magazine! HAHA

I am. Last summer, I helped my parents to do that. Now, one AirPort Extreme B.S. and it talks to all computers at home besides the Performa 6116CD. However, my neighbor didn't enable any WEP for his Linksys thing.. [I can just use it instead.]

I bought a 1st gen. AirPort and card when I ordered my Pismo Powerbook new. So, about 3 years since early 2001.

But I don't think my PowerBook has been more than 5 feet from my base station in a few months.

Ok, to expand things a little, what range and signal strength are you people getting?

I am about to get cable, and have an Al powerbook, with AE, and a G4 iMac without AE.

At this point in time, I am still deciding if I should get an airport base station, or the Netgear wgr614.

I live in a 2 story house, and the router will go upstairs. I would love to be able to take the pb downstairs, or outside, and still surf the web.

It pisses me off that my 2.4GHz phone system pauses my wi-fi connection every time I talk on the phone.

I have three machines at home presently. Two wireless, one wired:

dual 2.0 G5: wired (in same room with cable modem, Airport Extreme base, etc.)
 iBook (600MHz G3): Airport
homebrew AMD AthlonXP 2600+: Airport (802.11b PCI card; machine is in basement, and I didn't feel like dropping a Cat-5 cable down & across)

Had a similar problem. Bought an AT&T 5.8GHz system. No troubles since.

I have two laptops, powerbook g4, and ibook. I use the ibook as my main portable companion. Just because it's smaller, and Im afraid of breaking my G4. They both have airport cards, I keep the G4 hooked up to the ethernet cable, and share its internet capabilities via airport. Then I simply turn on my ibooks airport, and viola! I have a wireless network. Saves me the money of buying an airport station.

I'll never go fully wireless. Even with g it's still too slow. Better than b, but too slow, and I depend heavily on my file server. My laptops are on it, but my desktops are wired, and always will be.

As it is, I'm looking for gigabit.

Love WiFi. My gaming desktop and Xbox are wired to the router, while my iBook, brother's laptop, dad's desktop, and my Pocket PC are all on the WiFi net

I just retired the wired network today as I moved my PC upstairs.. now if only I could do something with the damn modem..

Ideally I would buy a decent router (probably a netgear or linksys), take my ugly DSL modem, plug it striaght in, and stick the damn things in a closet or in the garage maybe.. somewhere I don't have to ever see them again.

My g4 currently serves the network, which is just as well as it runs 24/7 as a multi purpose server..

My PC will function as a wintendo with chat and whatnot up in my room

Wish I could get a laptop.. then take some true advantage of the good stuff.

I'm always using wireless (via airport) with my ti book and am delighted with the flexbility it gives.

The basestation is connected to cable and gives me coverage all through the house (two storey) and onto the rear deck. It's wonderful. Unfortunately, after a couple of hours the battery is flat, so I have to plug into a powerpoint and become tethered again

What do you mean by fully wireless? I guess I am 66% wireless, since there is 1 wired tower, one wireless tower and 1 wireless laptop in my home.

Just got Airport for my girlfriend for Christmas. She's got the iBook, so gets to take advantage of it. I got the desktop Mac so I don't get the wireless goodness. But it's more desk space for me now!

i've got a crazy setup... DSL modem to Wireless router, one port goes to a PC up here, one to a PC downstairs, and one to a switch in my room which connects to my PC downstairs and my PS2. And of course, my iBook is wireless, along with my mom's Dell Notebook.

Well, I've recently moved to the small, progressive town of Carrboro, NC. Many public buildings already had wireless when I moved here. There is some guy in the town gov. who has been put in charge of the wireless initiative. I am not sure how much money he gets for hardware, but the work is all unpaid. He, along with community volunteers, do all the actual work. As we are a small town (adjacent to Chapel Hill), it's not such a lofty objective. Actually, much of our network is made up of people like me who open their wireless networks to others. So, if I am out having lunch, I can most likely find a connection. Even riding the bus, my computer will find connections (however, I can't use them due to the limited range of airport, but it is still cool to see them pop up.)

Thanks to our affluent, well educated populace, this project has a chance of working here. It may even serve as a model for other communities. That is the great thing about living in a progressive small town. You get to enjoy all the cool things first. We have the wireless initiative, a huge new dog park, and (to my knowlage) the nations first openly gay mayor. That's not to mention our bike paths and lanes and the great bus system we share with Chapel Hill. We have all the advantages of an university town without the university! Sorry about all the braging, but I do see wireless being as universal as cellular communications in the near future.

Cheers!

Not quite 100%. Have two powerbooks working wirelessly and a G4 sawtooth in the closet with the routers as a server, which is plugged straight into the router.

Absolutely love wireless.

My Power Mac is hard wired to the DSL via our 2Wire unit. My wife is the one that uses the wireless for her PowerBook.

TiVo is the only reason I have a home phone line.

I've thought about canceling my subscription just so I could "cut the cord", but I just love the programming guides too much.
