Thoth, which is no longer supported, or Unison, which is sweet.

Unison is "different" than most newsreaders, but once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you did without it.

Install fink (fink.sourceforge.net) and then install pan. It is, hands down, the best newsreader out there.

If you don't intend to use the binaries on usenet, then take a look at the exellent MacSoup.

www.tin.org

or you could use mt-newswatcher... i haven't used a proper usenet newsreader (apart from tin on my school's unix boxen) since google groups re-released the dejanews usenet archive with posting capabilities.

Have to second that. Wish it had twin previews like NewsBin Pro though. I couldn't get into the standard Mac newsreaders. I feel more comfortable having it all in one window.

I strongly recommend Unison! I've been using USENET for years on Windows, and Unison beats all the Windows programs hands-down. Its features for handling binaries are awesome. Try the free demo, buy it if you like it. The programmers are nice guys and respond to email; I reported a bug in the new version 1.5, and it was fixed within days.

I like using it to listen to music all day. My tastes are eclectic (new age mostly) and the music binary groups are a great way to discover new artists.

I second Pan for a free newsreader, but Unison is very nice if you want to spend the $$$

Usenet or RSS/Atom?
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Newsbin is a USENET newsreader/utility, so presumably USENET...

I wouldn't pay for one if you plan to upgrade to Tiger early next year as Safari RSS will be built in. It's functional but newsreader lite is free.

The OP asked about a USENET newsreader, not RSS. The posting previous to yours clarified that.

I tried iGrabNews for a week or so and hated it. Half the time it would stall on downloading binaries and it would hang randomly and just act funny. Unison is by far the best news reader I have used on OSX, though all this talk about pan has gotten me curious, maybe I'll give that a try.

I use Pan on Linux but it's not nearly as good as Unison, in my opinion.

I use Pan on Linux and Windows as well and I'd say that Unison is much better... Pan works, but it feels a little unrefined compared to Unison.
